Laptop repair gone south... what would you do?

And after this post, we ended up getting a new palm rest and transferring all the components over to it. So all in all, one of those things where if I had known at the beginning how it would end up, I would have gone a very different route, but hey, you live and learn.

I've had a few of these "heroic effort" repairs over the years - I always tell myself the customer will be so thrilled that I went to the ends of the earth to repair their machine that they will surely give me a big tip or a couple of referrals, but I don't think it has happened yet. I'm much quicker these days to avoid even talking about a potential repair without replacing the broken part...
