Laptop Partial Screen

Laptop hardware isn't my specialty, but I've been getting more and more.

I got a new, to me, today. The laptop screen is showing the upper 25% or so. The balance is white.

Any ideas?

New screen or cable

I agree that 90% of the time that represents a bad lcd but once in a while it is the cable power it up apart and wiggle the lcd cable at both ends and anywhere it makes a bend to test this if it doesnt change the amount of screen shown then it is the lcd but worth checking rather than getting a screen and finding out it was the cable all along in my opinion anyway
