My laptop got wet a year or so ago and just turned off so I put it away bought a new one and never looked at it again till today, I plugged it in and everything turned on then the screen went blank did not even get passed the boot up screen, so I plugged it in to a monitor, still nothing so I disconnected the power cord and boom display turned right on, I plugged it back in and it went off again, I am going to charge it tonight just so I can work on it tomorrow, but it wont last long on the battery, Seems that it will only display if the power cord is not plugged in the system stays running, all lights stay on but no display on my lap top screen or on a external monitor, What could it be? I really want to get my little dell going again.

I would think you got some corrosion on the motherboard, which i find makes it do some very wacky wacky things. Its one of the lingering effects of the liquid damage.

You most likely are shorting out something in the electrical components when you plug in the AC adapter plug. The result of water damage for sure.
