Toshiba L355D. CCFL screen. Came in with dim display.

External display works.

Tore it down. I don't think it's the lid switch; though I can't seem to be sure where it is.

- New inverter: no change.
- New inverter + new screen: no change. (hooked new screen to another laptop to confirm back-light works, it worked).

- New inverter, screen and LCD ribbon cable: no change.

Still dim.

If I plug in just the cable going into inverter (not plugging in LCD connection), nothing will happen. Only when I have the LCD cable connection do I see anything. So whatever color and signal comes through, it's through the LCD connection.

Any ideas? What in the world is causing the issue with powering up the back-light?

Thanks!

Could be the new inverter is bad as well. Can you test the new inverter in another, working laptop?

Ok, I had a slight ID ten T moment. Thought you had said L350. At any rate I have the SM for the L350D. It's a PSLD but it might still be a help. Check you PM.

Oh yeah, I think I tried another one that looked similar. Same results. I guess if I wanna be super sure, I can try the new one itself. In that case, I may as well try the ribbon in my laptop also.

be back in a bit. Got your PMs. send another back. Thanks.

I think I've done about 2 dozen swaps... most were LEDs. Had just a few LCDs with inverters. Heck, I even did a CCFL swap. But it's never gone this far before.

This is turning into quiet the part swapping fiasco...
I guess it was a good idea Tek9, but only more questions remain...

I have a SONY laptop. Just tried the new Toshiba inverter on it - dim display.

I had another spare SONY inverter. I tried THAT on my SONY laptop - worked; my screen lit up, etc.

I took the spare SONY inverter, and put it into the Toshiba - dim display.

The SONY screen is quite a bit smaller than the Toshiba. Is that a factor?

Now, I do have another Toshiba here (L640), but it's a client's. Also smaller screen. Can I/should I try using that inverter?

Can I burn the inverter out or anything like that? Or should I try the new inverter in the other laptop to see if it works there?

Is it less risky to first try the inverter from other Toshiba in the troubled Toshiba?
and if that's a no go, take the new inverter and put it in the working Toshiba?

(You see, craziness - but at this point, I wanna try anything I can).

Thanks.

Yeah, that's a bit risky. Plus, the other laptop is flying off on a plane in a few days; can't risk it.

Thanks for all the help guys. I may update with what needed up happening. These Toshibas are tanks; they last. Maybe someone else will find use for the thread.

Reps inbound.

2nd inverter is inbound. It has become personal the second the first inverter didn't fix the issue....haha. Luckily, the man was cool and understood. Brought me a second laptop that I got some work out of, so I won't lose too much money on all these parts :p

Thanks for reminding me of the thread.

If anyone gave a rat's arse....

Resolved the issue a while ago.
Sure enough, first 'new' inverter was bad. Put in second new inverter, and screen lit up fine.

Quite the trek, but felt good to get the final 'horaaah!'.

Good thing this guy kept giving me business.
