is this from a disgruntled "Micro$oft" scammer, have seen them use the last 4 digits of phone numbers, absolute ba$7@2ds they are, its like their saying, you didnt let us scam you, so i've locked you out of your system, have a nice day!!
I found this the first time I encountered a syskey lockout, worked for me. Ymmv. From the bleepingcomputer forums:
1.*****Boot from windows 7 install cd.
2.*****When the Install Windows page appears, click Repair your computer to access system recovery options.
3.*****Run System Restore to last point before syskey password blocked access. (This will fail, but must be done). Click run system restore again (this will take you back to the options list)
4.*****Open Command Prompt from the options list.
5.*****Open Regedit (Type regedit into the command prompt). Regedit will open.
6.*****Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa, and change 'SecureBoot' value to 0.
7.*****HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SAM\SAM\Domains\Account Change F value to 0000
3.*****Run System Restore to last point before syskey password blocked access. (This will fail, but must be done). Click run system restore again (this will take you back to the options list)
Had a lady call me in a panic on Wednesday. Had an FBI virus variant on her system. She told me someone called her and wanted $534.99 to remove it and asked what I would charge. Told her and got the go ahead - got paid, remoted in, cleaned it up. Called her to let her know I was finished with the job. She then said- My $534.99 will be back in my account right?
I asked her if she actually paid them - yup gave them her card (not the one she paid me with!) whew. I explained only the bank can refund the money and she needed to contact them immediately. SO yes, people fall for it all the time.
