JunkTidy - Fix "\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data"-Replica's
Hi folks...long time no see. As a Tech i have encountered numourus problems with Win7's "Application Data"-folder that keeps on replicating itself BACK to itself. Viruses and such likes this idea, and can sometims gain "Ownership" of such Directories and creating multiple LOOPS of this junktion/folder/mirror...or WHATEVER you may call it. I compiled a utility that can take care of this. I's still in BETA-form, and have only tested it on a couple of Window 7 PC's. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE INTENTION OF THIS UTILITY, IS FOR FOLKS THAT ARE DEALING WITH FIXING PC'S AFTER A VIRUS ATTACK AND BARE NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL FIX YOUR PC, BUT IT WILL TAKE CARE OF THE "LOOPS"...At the moment it only fix
"Application Data"-loops within LOCAL SETTINGS...I will try and ammend this in future releases
Please bare in mind that you use this app on your own risk!
( Although with all honesty, i havnt had a hick-up with it yet.)
29 Nov 2011 ( fixed some minor bugs )
NOW WITH 64-BIT SUPPORT!
THIS UTILITY IS MEANT FOR PROFFESIONAL/ADVANCED USERS/TECH'S!
I would appreciate it if Beta Testers could test it for me
WHAT THIS APP BASICLY DOES
=======================
1) You take "Ownership" of your "C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings-Directory
2) You now can gain access to it and remove "duplicate images" of the
"Application Data"-folder via "JunkTidy"
( have seen a lot of complains about folks having issues with this )
ALWAYS REMEMBER TO MAKE A BACKUP RIGHT AFTER TAKING OWNERSHIP!!!
When finished, just end with "Reset Ownership" and your folder will be protected...
Basicly it doesnt DELETE the ORIGINAL junction, but lets say you have more than 3 of the SAME junctions WITHIN ITSELF...it will delete the "nested" junctions up to a layer3, meaning if your folder is C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\...etc,
JunkTidy will ONLY delete the Application Data-"nested"-folders till there are 3 left...as Windows hardly use more than 2 of the EXACT SAME Application Data-folder to do it's "thing"...
PS: If your pc is so badly infected and have no or hardly any space, i dont see the need to do a backup....just do a Delete Junction ( if there IS more than 3 junctions, something smells fishy...)
THE FOLLOWING MUST BE MET FIRST!!!
=============================
1) In your FOLDER OPTIONS ( under "My Computer--Tools--Folder Options" ) "enable" SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS!
2) "Disable" HIDE PROTECTED OPPERATING SYSTEM FILES!
3) "Disable" UAC ( User Access Control )
4) Restart PC ( to disable UAC if it is not already disabled )
5) Run JunkTidy....
