Hi I have just done my first private job, On a slow desktop. Done a general system clean up, and a memory upgrade. Problem is I'm not sure what to charge was going to charge £30 for the memory (1gig ddr cost me £20) and I was thinking £30 for fitting and clean up. Am I in the right area?? please help don't want to be too cheap but without coming across expensive.

Call your competition and get quotes from them. This forum is international and the cost of living varies a great deal, so what may be cheap for some people may be overpriced for others.

Personally I charge £50 for 1gb (installed). Comparative to PCWorld (but we do it onsite). :)
Yes, price yourself against the big box stores, not the local Johnny-come-lately. There'll always be some local chancer who'll 'guarantee' to beat your price, don't align yourself with them.

Edit: As you're new in the business, you should have already identified your pricing structure and that of your competitors in your business plan. If you haven't already done so, take the time to do some local market research, it's important you demonstrate confidence when pricing work.

also one of the best things you could do is some title searches in the Forum for 'price' or 'pricing'. There's a significant body of knowledge on here about how to set it, if you take the time to do some reading....

Many thanks for replies, I went with £60 in total including the memory. Customer was happy with that, and say's she will call me again if she needs her PC look at.

Hopefully she'll recommend me to her friends.;)

I charge $65 per hour
or $65 flat rate if I pick up and deliver

$25 to intall memory, and I charge 15-25% over cost for parts.

Special services
$85 data recovery
$500-$1500 for websites
