is there any way to fix corrupted word files?

3 word documents got removed by the person that was fired in the small business that I manage. Those 3 files were recovered by easeus but will not open as they are corrupted.

Recovering those 3 files would be very helpful for the business. Any ideas if anything can be done? I tried some word repair tool without luck.

files were recovered from xp.. I am pretty sure they are unrecoverable. When I open file in notepad I get some garbisch. Unfortunately restore point does not recover documents...

Have you tried opening them in OpenOffice or LibreOffice? They can sometimes recover files Word can't.

You could see if you can extract anything useful with a hex editor. Just tried it on a simple document and you loose formatting but the content can be copied into a new document and understood. Better than nothing, I guess.

Seems like I remember you could do something funky, like rename them to .zip and extract an xml with the raw data or something like that. yes, in fact a quick google on word zip xml extract (or something like that I'm buzzed) turned up some decent looking info..

That's the reason why a guy, who lives just next to my house, always suggest me to have backup copies of my crucial documents. Luckily if you were the guy who has backup on his hand, you could get the corrupted documents back without having such a problem.

You have tried a tool that generated corrupted output. Are you sure?
OK, let it be. I can recommend you to try SysInfoTools product. If you have not used its MS Word Recovery tools, you can try them.

But first check free demo versions before buying the full version.

Carbonite is crap. For the Word files, DOCX files are actually zip files. Rename the extension to .ZIP and open with WinRAR. Extract the text and recreate the document.

I know that this thread was raised from the dead, but thought I might comment for future readers.

There are only three reasons that I can think of for the recovered files to be corrupt:

1. Purposely overwritten by the person who deleted them
2. They were overwritten by system use after they were deleted
3. They are corrupt because of poor data recovery methods

I have found that almost 100% of the time that a tech sends us a corrupt file that they recovered, it was corrupt for one of the above reasons.

It is very important to immediately power off the system with the deleted files and to use another system to recover the files to another drive. Test the files and it may require simply doing a scan for raw files of said file type, such as .DOC. A hey editor also comes in handy to determine how close you are.

My friends daughter was playing with my phone that had pin number security on it.

Samsung s4 has a built-in security feature that after x several times of putting wrong password in it will do factory reset and remove all data.

Needless to say my sd card got wiped. What would you recommend I try to recover data?(Obviously sd card is out of the phone)

Assuming that you didn't have the andriod encryption enabled, you should just be able to use a program like R-Studio. You can download and run the demo to be sure that you can see files before you pay.
