Topic of the day....Is OWA considered Webmail in the sense of when antivirus programs check it?

When you don't have email scanning protection on your exchange server, how can you check for viruses in email before it gets to the workstation? I have Trend Micro PCCillin installed on workstations and it has a "webmail" scanner in it. But I'm concerned that OWA isn't looked at like regular webmail...

Any thoughts?

We run OWA at my office and we ofcourse run AV on our Exchange system. I think emails get scanned twice before the end user gets it. Once at the gateway then agian on the Exchange server. The end users generally have an AV as well so a 3rd gets done. I don't know if TrendMicro treats it like any other webmail or not. I would say the best bet is a realtime AV scanner that when they try to download an attachment or code tries to run via an internet browser the scanner should be checking it before it runs. Yes this adds a minor delay to execution time but I think it is worth it. I would say the ideal solution is run AV on the Exchange system.

I agree totally that we should have email scanner on the exchange...and we will, just haven't implemented it yet.

I just saw this setup and wanted to know if OWA was considered webmail...but I don't think it is?

Thanks,
J
