Is Microsoft becoming an MSP?

The way this was worded (taking into account the reporters spin on it) was that Microsoft are building a cloud network: re - "as it continues to build its cloud-based device management and monitoring software." Is this not RMM?
To me this could mean another income stream for Microsoft by "monitoring and managing" computers al la MSP style.
The decision to port it back to Windows 7/8.1 also seems a "little too convenient" as they know that many will not/never update to Windows 10.
So with a system like this in place they could offer to "manage" Windows 7/8.1 after their respective end of life; and Windows 10.
For a fee of course.

Microsoft is a publicly traded corporation, like all publicly traded corporations it doesn't care about making money, it cares about making more money than last quarter.

So do I think they're going to do an MSP thing in house? As an extension of this Microsoft 365 game they're playing?

Oh... you bet they are. We're all going to be subcontracted to them, just like the poor slobs running around doing the work for Dell.

Yeah, they'll only manage it the same way they manage your Windows updates.

I've also been surprised by how much of a resource hog Defender can be.
