There was a post here earlier this week about how someone had seen an influx of corrupt user profiles. I clicked past it thinking nothing of it but I did in fact have one later that week, and then another, and then another, and then another.
The first one I was able to fix simply by renaming the .bak Folder under the Profile List in the registry.
The second one is where things get interesting. I go out there to replace a residential customers speakers. Additionally I sell him on a new backup drive as his was bad, and Kabuto/AV. I install Kabuto and plug the new backup drive in and hook it up to Crashplan and then leave. The next day I get a call that his stuff is all missing. Sure enough, corrupt user profile when literally the only thing that changed was adding Kabuto. I rename the .bak in the Profile List (it took two times, profile failed to load again), then it seemed to stabilize. The next day he contacts me again, same problem, same solution. He has not contacted me about the issue since then.
Number 3 is a client with the same issue except her profile wont even let her login. It wont even create a TEMP profile for her. So seeing as she wasn't local I walked her into safe, created a new Admin account, rebooted, logged into the new account and did the same registry fix. Problem solved for now I suppose.
Number 4 Client brings in a computer that I am going to mirror over to a Samsung SSD. Everything operated normally but VERY slow before. Migration was successful. I log into her profile a couple of times, then out of nowhere I start booting into a TEMP profile. This time the registry fix doesn't work, and I end up having to create a brand new profile then migrate all of her data. Everything appeared successful and the computer was running great. Then she emails me at 8PM saying all her icons are missing yadda yadda yadda, same thing, corrupt user profile.
All computers run W7, all computers have Kabuto + Emsisoft, and the only reason why I leaning towards Kabuto being the problem is from Number 2. I hadn't touched his computer in over a year and it was running great. I install Kabuto and all the sudden his profile is corrupt.
