I have an upgrade available and am kind of torn on what to get!

I like the iphone because I have the 4 and like the jailbreak-ability of it

I have tried to "root" an a friends droid and it seemed to be a nightmare.

I am kind of torn on what to get, suggestions? I have read the reviews of both and everyone blasts one or the other. Any actual user and non media type opinions?

I've been using an S3 for about a month now. My progression over the last few years has been the G1, G2, G2x (rooted w/Cyanogen) and now stock S3.

I paid full price for my S3 after breaking the screen on my G2x (again) and deciding I'd rather spend a bunch on a new phone rather than fix that one.

I like the S3 a lot. Great screen, good battery life, so far everything just works like it should. The size took a little getting used to, but that didn't take long. My only minor complaints is that it's darn slippery and IMO the bottom row of icons are too big.

Do you have any particular questions?

Not sure if your carrier supports them, but the new WP8 phones will be coming out pretty soon. Nokia Lumia 920 for instance. Pretty sweeeeet.

Well I like iPhone mainly because of ease of use and size. I am not a person who carries a wallet even. I carry cash, ID, and credit card, keys and phone, thats pretty much it. Not big on having things in my pocket. I still go out on the weekends and am scared of having this huge object in my pocket that is going to annoy the hell out of me. Do you find the OS more "hackable" per say? Like iPhone, once jailbroken, you can change just about anything.

My biggest complaint of iphone is the fact that itunes is such a you know what when it comes to music management and it is not treated like a flash drive, you have to use itunes to do everything and if you have music on another computer, you can only manually manage it on one computer. Frustrating.

I do like the icloud features though, does droid have the same thing?

I have used both iPhone and Android phones. I prefer the iPhone as ease of use and security. I just upgraded to the iPhone 5 and paid full price to keep my Verizon Unlimited plan. I was just in New Orleans and did a speed test with LTE and got 36.88Mbps Down and 17.42Mbps up. Was totally shocked!

I also met another guy at the conference that had the S3. It is way to big for me!

I just switched from an iPhone 4s to an S3. It is taking a bit of getting used to but I like large screen and bright colors. This is my first android phone. So far so good.

The size of the S3 took a little getting used to, but after a week I didn't even notice it anymore. Except when seeing it next to someone else's phone when it suddenly looks huge again. Nevertheless, it fits in my pocket just fine (granted, I'm not a tight-jeans kind of guy - ymmv ).

More hackable? If you mean in a good way, like full access to all lots of settings then yes - if you're phone is rooted. Rooted android is wonderfully tweakable and accessible. There's very little that can't be fiddled with.

However, although I've rooted my Android phones in the past, I haven't taken that step (yet) with my S3. It does what I want without rooting. Someday down the line, I'll probably get bored with it, root it and slap some mod on it. But for now, it's surprisingly good just the way it is.

Edit - regarding iCloud, given my understanding of what that is, yes - everything that it does either happens automatically with Android (through your Google account), or is easily added.

Edit number two - It hasn't been asked, but by the way - love the camera. Specifically that it's FAST. Touch the button and the picture snaps, little to no delay. And the picture quality is great as well.

Maybe these will help. The iPhone is smaller, lighter, more well made, faster, better voice Recognition, ect.

"I tried to navigate somewhere, and I couldn't get to where I wanted to by voice," he said. "So, I was a little disappointed, because I love navigation by voice with my Google [Android] phones, actually, since they always get it and are based on a better database."

-Steve Wozniak

Wozniak has said that his primary phone is still an iPhone, but he “loves the beauty” of the Android. To quote exactly, “I love the beauty of it. But I wish it did all the things my Android does, I really do.” Now, when he mentions “all the things my Android does,” there’s a few different things that he’s referring to. He prefers the Android GPS as well as the Android voice recognition system. “I’ll be saying, over and over again in my car, ‘Call the Lark Creek Steak House,’ and I can’t get it done, then I pick up my Android, say the same thing, and it’s done.”

Two points here.

1. I have 5 tech reviewers saying the iPhone is better and back it up with tests and videos. You have one person (Who has less to do with Apple these days than I do) saying it has some issues.

2. The Maps app while not perfect (although I have had no issues with it and no one I actually know has either) will get better with time. Just like google maps did. Also there are many, many Alternatives available in the app store.

Oh, and we still have the whole smaller, lighter, more well made, faster, thing.

Eh, by the time they catch up with google maps, google will be on to something better with maps. I haven't seen any apple maps cars driving around.

My point was, google has better voice recognition and maps.. I highly doubt anyone can use a s3 and then an iphone and say either one is slow or one is faster than the other. Smaller isn't a good point unless you're in to that sort of thing..

To each their own...

I disagree with voice recognition being better Especially considering Siri is still in beta.

I will agree to each their own.

Like I tell everyone who really cares about the reviews, and comparisons. IOS and android are two completely different systems. Go to the store, test them out, and see what you like best. Im thinking about trying Windows phone 8 when the nokia lumia 920 comes out in October.

But to answer the op. I don't have an s3 but I have an Xperia play and the wife has some huge htc phone. I personally have never owned an iPhone. But rooting both of our phones was painless thanks to xda developers. I installed few different custom roms on my phone and use a ton of root apps like titanium backup. So I have no problem with android and love how customizable it is.

I also love swype or any variation of it because im terrible at typing with a touch screen...I miss my blackberrys keyboard.

Lol, im actually not pickin on apple, to admit im picking would imply my statements would do harm without merit... show me another tech company who took an awesome piece of technology and ruined it, to make life easier for the masses.

Honestly i was merely posting to get another humorous response out if you.
