IOS or Android, what's your choice?

Lets do this. I'm going to assume you love Windows 8. Lets take your Dell and install Windows ME on it. No problem you say? Oh wait, you don't want ME on it? Why not? Because no matter how good the specs are the user experience would suck balls and you would never wanna use the machine. Thats the best I can do, if you still don't get the concept I don't know what to tell you.

I get the point about User Experience, but my experience from supporting over a hundred users in a mixed Windows/Mac environment is that 25% will only use a Mac, 20% hate the Mac UI and refuse to use it, and the rest don't give a crap either way as long as they can get on the Internet, read email, and check Facebook, twitter, and youtube at their desk.

and there is a huge difference between Win Me and 7 and not that much difference to most users between Win7 and OS X. Set up properly on a decent machine, you or I could easily teach someone to be comfortable and productive in either in about half an hour.

Read my post. You completely miss the point. USER EXPERIENCE. You post is a case example of what I'm talking about. All I'm hearing is specs, specs, specs. Gz this and MHz that GB this and TB that. I didn't hear one thing about the build quality, the user experience while using the computer, the OS, the resale value, Where did all these go? They are all just as important as specs and I'd argue even more so. All those specs are completely useless if the end user does not like using the machine. I'm not sure I can make you understand this concept.

I completely understand the user experience argument. And I'll give you that one. If people feel that OSX is worth the cost of the inflated hardware then fine, that is THEIR choice and not mine.

Taking a new dell, removing windows 8 and installing windows ME is outside of the realm of user experience. Functionally it will have major issues due to the age of the operating system. Now if say somehow I could get windows XP installed and get everything working properly on it (drivers, applications and so on) then I'd be okay with that. The user experience would suck balls because of the "tech gap" from modern operating systems to the now ancient windows ME.

Some people might even like the "fit and finish" better on the macs.

That's not to say the dell I've listed isn't a very nice machine, it's of business quality and I'm sure it will hold up.

As far as resell, well the number one reason is because price premium to begin with. Followed with those who want the "mac status" without spending $2000.

I don't have anything against the mac, or even hate the mac machines. But I personally wouldn't own one at the current value per dollar. I even like OSX.

So they don't really count because they are like most techs and have already made up their minds without giving it a fair try. They looked at the OS, decided they hated the UI and never used it again. I'd say 80% of the "techs" I know did the same thing.

The way most people use their computers they wont notice a difference? Not until the Windows user gets infected with the latest virus and their OS is fried. Something that no matter how much you might wanna argue about it the OSX user is almost completely safe from.

This does not hold up. If we both spent $1,000 on a computer, mine a Mac and yours a PC I'll still be able to get a lot more for mine in a few years. You and I both know that.

Um this could be just a bit off topic now, don't hya think, guys?

The question is not about what abstract generic end users use

Its specific to techs.

What each of us use, and why, is kinda interesting

The usual "religious debate" on generalities is not.

Just a sugestion.....
