Hiya.
I believe Internet Explorer is an integral part of the OS.

Question. Should you upgrade IE to the latest version whether you use it or not ?

As the upgrade updates other critical OS system files.

I always update IE. It is fairly integrated into the system in the US, but not as much in the UK (Anti trust laws). You sure don't want some malware or Virus executing and directing IE6 or 7 for you.

Yuppers!

It's a potential hole...and even if you (or the end user) uses another browser, once in a while Internet Exploader gets launched for something. Opening up potential for exploit.

Yup. Security.

The thing is, a number of applications will 'launch' IE for doing whatever they do, rather than referencing the browser set as default.

For many end users, they would not necessarily note that a different browser had opened and could be vulnerable @ any subsequent activity.

Can't see any reason to not do it

Some applications like QuickBooks are built on top of IE. Failure to upgrade it is foolish. Also Windows Explorer also uses code with IE. Any time you open My computer you are opening some IE code.
