Internet Explorer HTTPS certificate problem

I got a customer running a Vista desktop with IE7.

Whenever she goes to a webpage with a HTTPS prefix, she gets a certificate error and the "Continue to this website (not recommended)" screen.

It happens on ALL webpages begining with HTTPS, be it Ebay, Gmail, Amazon etc.

So far I have tried resetting all the IE7 settings in Internet Options, upgrading to IE8 and running WinsockFix. Nothing has worked. There are no signs of a virus.

Any ideas?

Windows isn't my specialty, but maybe try shutting off the fishing filter. Otherwise if I remember correctly under system tools there is an option for running IE without add-ons or IE safe mode under system tools or running "iexplore -extoff" in the command line. Might help you isolate whats causing it.

Forgot to mention I have tried IE with no-addons and it makes no difference.

There is a most likely a problem with her root certificates. You'll have to clear them out and reinstall them most likely. I know I've had to install the DoD root certificates for users before because IE doesn't come with them installed by default.

What is the issue identified with the certificate as shown in the details view?

Have you clicked on the details of the certificate when the error comes up and checked to see that the Certificate Authority is listed in IE's Tools > Content > Trusted Root Certificate Authorities?

You can highlight them all and remove them, then download and reinstall them from Microsoft. Their computer may require additional certificates to work on their company network or to access unusual servers.
