I have a dell XPS M1330 in here and it has windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on it. A customer of mine uses this computer for school.
her story is that up until a month ago, she could log on and do everything that she has needed to. now when she clicks on certain buttons on the website nothing happens. However when she does it on another computer it seems to work just fine. She was on tech support with the school people for 4 hours one day and they could not figure it out.

According to the website, she has to use IE7 or 8, in 32 bit mode. I can log in and click on certain buttons, but for example, to go in and start a test certain buttons, click but nothing happens, i have also tried to open them in a new tab. Nothing.

I have ran MBAM, SAS, combofix, hijack this...found some adware and 1 browser hijacker. I removed all of those, restarted the computer. Disabled IE8, restarted, re-enabled, and ran the windows club IEFIX, and nothing. I have reset all of the internet explorer settings.

When I try to do it on my computer, it works just fine. What I do is I click this "begin test" button and it opens an entire new window, without the taskbar and address bar. But on her computer, it makes the click sound but nothing happens. Her settings show pop up blocker turned off, I have also turned off all of the privacy settings and security settings.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? It seems like it would be simple, I just cant figure it out!!

thanks

Any chance it's loading a java applet in a new window? Lots of school testing is done through Java. Unload all previous, and update. (JavaRA works best). Sight unseen, thats my idea...

I have uninstalled and reinstalled java with no positive results. I used Javara too.

I have also tried in safe mode and I still get the same results, which makes me think it might be an IE problem, but from what I understand you cant uninstall and reinstall IE8 in windows 7...

Will a repair install work for this?

Have you checked to make sure she is using the 32-bit version of IE. Win7 64-bit comes with both 32-bit and 64-bit IE.

If I remember correctly (Since I don't use IE, I'm not sure I remember it correctly) the 64 bit version is just labeled Internet Explorer. The 32-bit version is labeled Internet Explorer 32-bit.

I do remember one doesn't say and the other one does.

Opposites, 64-bit is labeled
Have you tried IE w/o Add-ons/deleted all 3rd party add-ons?

I have set all of the internet explorer settings exactly to my setup on my pc here and i still get the same results. I have tried all of the other above suggestions besides a system restore....
what is happening is that it works when the window is in the browser, but when IE tries to open another window, thats when it is not working..

That rings a bell. I had a problem at a school like this where some online resource wouldn't work with the latest IE. I think we had to rollback to an earlier version.

Those properties are just for the image by the look of it. Doesn't really give a clue as to whether JS is being used unfortunately.

Out of interest, what happens with Firefox or Chrome?

Everytime I've had problems with 64-bit OS's using 32bit browsers it's been a flash problem.

Does youtube work in the 32bit version?

If not go to the flash website from the 32bit browser.

well we hope that is the problem, she actually is going to bring it back to me monday as she had to do an online discussion with her class this afternoon and needed the computer. So when it gets back to me I will give the flash a try, but I did update flash if that makes a difference.
