Intel storage matrix broke win updates and it can't be fixed..?

I have a customer with an older HP workstation running win7 pro 64bit and a raid 1 with two 500gb drives. One of the drives died and I replaced it. Upon replacing it, i then updated the storage matrix software to 8.9. Now windows update and indexing service are broken. I've found other people with the same problem and the solution from intel is to update to the newer Intel's Rapid Storage Technology software to replace the storage matrix software. Unfortunately the RST software is not compatible "not supported" on this motherboard.

I also tried uninstalling the 8.9 matrix software with no luck, tried going back to several different older versions of the matrix software too. I've tried a lot of things with no luck. Anyone have any ideas? I'm really trying to avoid a nuke and pave.

PS. system restore points are not an option in this case :/

Search the forum. This issue has come up before but I don't recall the exact details. Might have to roll back to a different driver.

RST has caused more than a few mysterious problems, in my experience. If it's not needed in the situation, I'm inclined to remove it. Not that that would help you, this is more for others that may get tripped up by it. Unfortunately, I have no direct info that is going to help you here.

Now, on to something that MIGHT help you:

Have a look in there and see if there's some info you can glean for a lead.

What mobo/chipset is it?

I have found this too. I downloaded an older version of Intel Matrix Storage Manager from

I tried an older version too, but no such luck. Did it happen to work for you?

Larry, unfortunately not

nline, I'll do some additional searches and see what i can find

Fremont, I don't recall the specs off the top of my head, I'll pull them later when i can remote in

See if snappy driver installer will grab an even newer version?

Failing that I've always fixed it by grabbing a HP branded one regardless of brand i'm working on.

Good point, mrapoc. The latest HP release for that particular desktop would be worth a shot.
