What a day. I thought this was going to be simple, maybe it is and I'm overlooking something.

Outlook keeps crashing when trying to import contacts. I Click the file and click contacts to put it in that location. Then It starts progress and says: Microsoft office has stopped working. Then to another screen restarting. Then it just restarts outlook.

Things I have tried:

1. Ran quick repair on Outlook.
2. Ran the online repair on outlook. (this just made it worse as it deactivated Outlook and had to hunt down a copy of office.)
3. Figured no big deal, next step was uninstall and reinstall anyways. Installed a fresh copy of outlook. Still crashes.
4. Thought maybe the flash drive was making it have trouble. Transferred it on to computer. No go.
5. I tired a different CSV file and still not go.

Any ideas to get this to actually take? This is starting to drive me crazy?

Have you got the original contacts in a PST file? If so you could attach it to Outlook and drag and drop the contacts over. I would run the CSV file through Excel and delete any columns that are not populated and check that the remaining columns are all valid.

If it goes into another outlook then export to pst from that other outlook and import the PST instead, or attach the pst as data file then drag drop contacts

I deleted the profile and entered another one. I figured that couldn't be it either as he has two profile on his computer and happens on both his wife and his.

Are you importing from a non-local file (ie over the network) by any chance?

I've had similar problems with Outlook when trying to import from .csv/.pst files that are stored on mapped drives or other network shares. Copying the file to a local drive first usually resolves it.

I am using a flash drive. But I did transfer the files directly to the computer itself then try to transfer, still a no go.

I also tried to disable everything that was running. No go.

Not sure what the heck, but he ended up having a back up with the same contacts, I used that one and it went through fine.

Maybe, I wish I could of held on to his computers a bit longer to try and figure it out. I want to know why! I wonder even what would I have said or done if I couldn't get it to work.

I forgot to mention it, but I did check the add ins, one of my first go to maneuvers. I did a test run to with Mcafee installed on my computer but it didn't do that to me.
