I was using Macrium reflect? or something like that. It does a great job when imaging the same machines... however I get blue screens when booting an image on dis similar hardware. I ordered a box close to the same series as the original and that blue screened as well as a newer computer.

I tried booting to safe mode to remove all drivers but it blue screens before it ever boots to safe mode.

I would just clone the drive, boot the original system from the clone, run Sysprep (with shutdown on completion) then transfer the clone drive to the new hardware.

You can Sysprep the original drive of course, but it would be wise to image it first in case something goes wrong.

I've used paragon to do this before now. Not sure if it's the best option

Mind you, H*r*s boot disk has a hard drive controller fix in the live boot cd. But h*r*n's is technically naughty software so would be good to find the same fix elsewhere (or just extract the .bat file)

The Paragon adaptive restore CD works well - fixes HDCs and various other issues. Acronis have their one.

You haven't reported the bluescreen message but I assume it's the old 7b stop error - the HDC driver as mrapoc suggests. Hirens has gone legal now I believe. Also UBCD4Win has the HDC fixing app on it.

O&O Diskimage also does this. It's not the fastest solution but it does work and it's affordable. They also have a trial.

Usually if it won't boot after an image it has something to do with the hard disk controller. I would try changing between ahci and ide sata modes in the bios.

As mentioned there are many options. And most of these utilities have 30 day free trial, fully functional. Easus also does this. But some of them have to do the backup with the source filesystem live. So you have to have had the backups running prior to the failure.
