Have a 27 inch Imac in with a segate ST31000528ASQ drive i am sure this has heat sensor pins, what can i use to replace this with OEM?.
S.M.A.R.T says there is a failure in the diagnostic looks like heads crashed not able to access there is no critical data on it.

How can you read SMART if the heads crashed? If the heat sensor is just one that is glued to the drive, you should be able to use any SATA hard drive you wish.

If it's one that has the sensor glued to the outside, just replace it with any other drive.

If it's one that has a cable attached to read the drive's internal sensors, stick with the same brand of drive.

There are three ways apple does it. It varies with the model/year.

1. Glued on sensor. Just replace drive and put sensor back.
2. Attached to HDD pins. You can replace the cable with an ODD sensor that just sticks on to the drive.
3. Through the data cable. You have to get a drive from Apple or use a third party program to control the fan speed.

It has cable that plus into 2 pins on drive tried to find more info it would be possible to replace with OEM seagate and use fan software to throttle fans.

Your posts are very difficult to understand. Punctuation really helps.

The drive you listed is one that has a standard SATA cable + power, with another cable that plugs into the diagnostic pins toward the middle of the drive. If this is what you're seeing, you can replace it with a Seagate drive. You don't need to worry about software for fan control.
