any guide somewhere,or direct link to that file?,i searched and did not find a lot of info about it...

thank you,

As I understand it they are separate OSs. In other words, you need to enter a different product key for MCE. Never tried a repair install of MCE over Pro, but AFAIK, when you install MCE, the installation will take the direction of the key you provide. If you give it a Pro key, it installs Pro, and if you give it a MCE key, it installs MCE.

With Windows 7 K and N editions (Home Premium and Ultimate), you can just add media center components with a KB installation but thats because those OSs would normally come with it (when not denoted by the K or N suffix).

Thats my level of understanding about it. No doubt someone else on here will have better knowledge about it than me :)

There used to be a way of installing mce over xp pro. It all involved the use of a conversion program. XP Pro needed to be completely installed, and updated, then you ran the coversion program, following the steps shown, and mce would go over the top.

I'm not sure if this is the actual conversion program, but you will be able to see it etc..

hi,thanks guys for replying,
also after some more research i found some info too,how to:

Convert Xp to Xp MCE 2005

here just a line from the guide:

PHP:
Change Xp Pro/Home/Tablet PC (and 2003) to Xp MCE 2005
(it will be recognized as original MCE 2005 by MS and updated!)

the file contains all files need it plus guide how to do it

link here

i still have to test it my self...

thank you.

Keep in mind also that MCE is not XP pro. Its a hybrid between home and pro. MCE is missing many pro features like the ability to connect to a domain.
