Boy this is a strange one. A customer loves Internet explorer so I fixed his old broken version by updating to a new one.. but for some reason in IE8 I cannot change the start page from www.msn.com. Its crazy.. i went to the little house icon on the right, set yahoo to the new tab.. but it wont get rid of the msn one.. even if you try to remove etc. Any idea why this is? some sort of weird helpful setting?

I even tried to change it in the registery.. with no luck.

Is there any soft of security/malware protection/antivirus type software installed that would protect the IE homepage setting?

Did you go to yahoo then bring up "tools"->"internet options"->then click on the "Use Current" tab then "Apply" then "Ok" ?

14049752: Yes it did have Norton.. really though? Norton could even break the start page? I didn't try it without norton to be honest.

NYJImbo: I did try to set the homepage that way as well. But it didn't take.

If nothing else works reset IE to defaults.

"tools"->"internet options"->"advanced tab"-"Reset".
Then exit IE and go back in.

I've done that for weirdo's that wont fix otherwise.

That's the 1st thing I'd look for. I know spybot has/had a setting for protecting the homepage, but that would gray it out in internet options to where you couldn't even try to change it. I'd suspect Norton because I've seen Norton do that on several occasions.
