I have an odd one. The outlook 2003 contact list is no longer tied to outlook when creating new email messages. When you click the "To" in the new message you get the following error:

"The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or you do not have permissions. For information on how to remove this folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Outlook Help."

I dutifully googled and came up with Microsoft KB319901 that exactly described the issue. Unfortunately the listed solution did not fix it. I was also surprised not to find any alternative recommendations or conditions. Not even the well you are screwed and have to reinstall everything if it doesnt work.

Unfortunately this error has been going on for so long she cant remember if something else happened at the same time. No other known symptoms for me to hang my hat on. I am suggesting an upgrade to the new office (i havent yet actually used the office 2007 because of all the yelling about new file types) in the hope that the upgrade process will correct whatever has hung this.

Have any of you seen something like this.

Oh, its a dell laptop, vista home premium.

Sounds like a corrupt profile. Try backing up (export) pst and delete the profile. Create a new profile and import you pst file. This can be done in the control panel under mail.:)

If you take that router. Before you delete the profile I would create a new profile and make it the default profile, launch outlook and test. If it doesnt work then do as Frostbyte stated, back up the contacts to a PST.

Also I dont know if you tried this but launch outlook from start run with the following switches

outlook /firstrun --> Starts Outlook as if it were run for the first time
or
outlook /cleanprofile --> Removes invalid profile keys and recreates default registry keys where applicable

Microsoft makes my head hurt

I am trying the new profile. I backed up the outlook to a pst file. and am importing it into the new profile. Vista is doing some crazy stuff. It just popped up a message (for a minute) about host processes stopped and it would let me know if it found a solution. screen went black and then continued the import. wtf?

Anyway the import seems to have worked. I will see if the new(old) email acts the same as the old before I delete the old profile

thanks for the suggestions:)
