Does anyone know where I can grab hold of a HP OfficeJet 7700 Series Service Manual/Teardown Guide?

I have a L7780 (C8192A) that insists that it has a paper jam. Checked all the usuals - paper path, cogs, sensors, flags, but just cannot find any obstacle. Have blown it out with a decent compressor, cleaned all the pickup rollers etc

I've searched the net, but just cannot find an answer on this one.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Andy

This is caused by a sensor telling the printer brain that there is a piece of paper in the paper path when the printer is not printing (Ok, yes, this is a duh)
You need to check all the sensors, make sure they are all reporting the correct state. If it is an IR sensor, use a camera to see if IR is being shone at the correct point. Make sure no little liftgates are stuck.

As far as I can tell, there is no tear down as this is a consumable printer that is not worth the time to tear down and fix.

Thanks Rob,

Was hoping to get the teardown just to cross reference the sensors to make sure I hadn't missed any.

Andy,

You should have a private message from me.

Thanks Ray,

Really appreciate this.

Hello Andy, hello Rob,
I am searching for a teardown manual for the officejet too.
Maybe you could give me one?

Many thanks
Michael

I think Rob is right about there not being a service manual for this consumer model. I just looked for a printer repair kit for the L7700 and there aren't any. The best you can do is look for a paper clip or torn piece of paper. Maybe you can rejuvenate the rollers with a commercialy available product...do not use alcohol!

In the past I've fixed issues like by replacing pickup/feed rollers or other wear items that are sold in kits for the larger printers.

I found this link for curing L7700 jams from HP. It's worth a shot.

Hi Michael,

In the end, with the amount of time being spent on the problem, it really wasnt worth me persuing it any more. I never did find a teardown manual. Even on the HP Partsurfer (http://partsurfer.hp.com)website, there was no technical detail of the printer.

I ended up advising the customer to purchase a new printer. Ironically, and against my advice, he went for another HP OfficeJet Pro

Hello
thanks for the answers and sorry for the late reply.
We have the officejet connected with a CISS (Continuus ink supply system)
And in that way its the cheapest printer on the market and not so easy to replace by an other model.
The only problem is the feeding mechanism for the scanner. It does not do its job. I'd like to replace it with the one from an other machine, but dont know how to.
THerefore I need the service manual.
But maybe I have to investigate a little more time

That's why I like this site. I'm always learning. I never heard of CISS so I Googled it.

Anyway, if it's just the scanner feed assembly I'd definitely try to rejuvenate the rollers with a commercial product. I use Techspray's product. (I even use this product on my wiper blades to extend their service life but eventually replacement is the only option) Most feed issues on printers are because the rollers get smooth, hard or glazed over. New/rejuvenated rollers are soft and pliable and grip the paper as intended.

If you want to swap the feed roller assembly between printers you're on your own since there is no service manual available that I can find.

Good luck!
