Ran HitmanPro and it found a rootkit but now the computer won't start, had a restore point but that's not working either, what do you guys do to handle this?

windows 7 64 bit....

It could well be that you have a boot sector rootkit infection which hitman removed but didn't fix. If this is the case then you can google and find out how to repair the boot sector for your operating system.

Alternatively it may have just detected a rootkit in an important system file. In this case, an offline sfc should take care of things. You may also want to manually compare the drivers folder with one on a working system.

Basically windows won't load and startup repair pops up and tries to fix and it can't.

It's windows 7 64 bit.

I'm looking into this, all advice is appreciated.

Did you make a note of which virus it found? It's best to do this so you can look up the possible actions it's taken.

That aside - what iisjman07 said.

You need some sort of liveCD.
You have bootable ubuntu etc..

You start Linux, save all data to external HDD, boot win7 install disk, format all disks, when you install windows, install some good antivirus (AVG) scan saved data and restore it to computer.

They have since been banned.
