How bad is my website?

I just put my website on godaddy.com and am looking for major improvements. It used to be hosted for free on google sites, so at least I have improved that, but I know it really isn't much right now. I used Easy Web Professional 7 to create it (which is a horrible program, but I don't have a lot of money to spend on web site creation software). It is located at http://www.rostcomputerservices.com/ I know I need some kind of logo, but I am not a great artist. I just threw it up there a little while ago because I have had my old site down for a while and I thought I should have something up there to replace it, even though it is not yet what I want it to be. Is the design OK? I know some of the text is not aligned and I need to fix that. I also need to get rid of the extra space at the end of the pages. What else really needs to be changed?

You might want to take a look around some photoshop forums and find someone that is looking to build up a portfolio to do your website. Thats really only if you can not afford to pay someone else. I did a few sites like this back 3 or 4 years ago for people but I only do this for myself anymore. Im to paticular about the way things look and it takes me for ever to get them done. lol

Honestly? Its just absolute crap.

If you where a customer, you'd expect a Technician to have professional lookin' website. People are goin' to judge you just based purely on your website. Your portraying an 'image' of your company.

If you where gettin' your computer fixed, would you take it to: 1) a young male, all blood'd out, head to toe in red, or 2) a young male wearing a suit (or company-affiliate clothing) lookin' the part of a professional?

As previous suggested, go around some Photoshop forums for someone lookin' to build their portfolio. Or go down to your local "Computer Graphics Design Institute" and talk to some soon-to-be graduate students. You could get a professional page for free, or next to nothing.

It's really bad mate, just being honest.

Yeah thats another thing, like Methical mentioned, you could possible talk to some professors and try to turn this into a class project where everybody designs a site around your requirments (such as look, content, images etc) and you could have a few to choose from. Maybe you can some type of small reward. Just an idea. I have heard of some people doing this my area.

Clearly you aren't a web designer and that's ok. Instead of trying to be something you aren't install wordpress (godaddy has an auto install feature), get a decent free theme for it and off you go. Seriously, there's no excuse in today's world to have a poor website and you don't have to. Hell even nice wordpress themes are free or if you want to spend a little money for a highly customizable, but very easy to use theme look into one called thesis. All of my sites run on it.

Or if you aren't a wordpress fan, joomla works too.

I suppose I'll have to find something to replace it, although I don't know what to do with the site in the meantime other than leave the one I have up. I did take one intro to HTML class in college, but that was about 10 years ago and I don't remember much about it. Right now I guess I will try to work on something basic that doesn't look really bad while I try to find a better solution.

I don't think keeping that "website" up is a good idea.

Its lacks professionalism, to be honest u'd be better off hosting a picture of your business card ( if you have one) or something saying UNDER CONSTRUCTION Please Call (ur number here) for for assistance. Until you sort out that mess.

DON'T PUNISH YOUR SELF!

wow i like the way you guys are honest. brutal but honest.

most of us are computer repair techs. not web designers.
Thats why its pretty hard to do a website right.

I agree that you should make your site super basic.
like 1 page business card super simple and just hit the basic questions
price, phone number, services and are aof operation... done!

my site is super wordy and a bit awefull currently.
i just havent gotten around to making it right.

I put up a redesigned site based on code that I had written in college. I don't know if it is any better or not. I know you guys didn't like the first one (I have no idea what you think about the one I just put up), but what attributes about the site should I change and what attributes does a "professional" site need? Does it need animations, flash, etc or what does a site need to look professional?

I just sent you some quick templates I created with Artisteer. NOTHING special at all. Just quick out of the box designs. You can edit those if you want. I'm using Artisteer for Drupal, so I can't help much with the HTML. But maybe it's enough to get you started.

And here's a free HTML editor to edit that template.

www(dot)kompozer(dot)net (I can't post links yet...)

This is like a trip back in time when everything was done in just html and done in BG color and no real graphic designs.

If nothing else, wordpress is a great option and easy to use. Simple backend that allows you to just type what you want on each page and wordpress handles the rest. Also they have many Themes to choose from. No real technical experience with coding is necessary.

I can't do the frames. :\ I've always been taught NEVER EVER EVER..... EVER use frames! As everyone else has mentioned, get yourself a wordpress site. If you need hosting, I might be able to hook you up as I'm a host and also guide you in your web design process.

If not - take ProTech up on some of his offers, he's starting a hosting business, and seems very legit. Love his splash page while he waits to get http://protechhosting.net/ up and running. Very elegant.
