Hiren's vs D7?

LOL!

Gonna have to give you the same instruction as Bertie ;)

Don't get me wrong here. I think D7 is a great idea. A few techs including myself were tossing around the idea of something like this years before you were on the scene. People who have been on here since around 07 or 08 can verify this. Because of my lack of programing skills it never got done. Credit where its due, its a nice tool. I would like to see it done differently and made to look cleaner but I'm not bagging on the product.

Thanks! I'm pretty much in agreement. I would love to be able to produce something nice looking, not eye candy but something that doesn't look so jumbled up and _basic_. Unfortunately I don't have the graphic skills or even an eye for design. I'm just not wired that way. :(

EDIT: worse yet, one thing I can do something about - which I haven't - is TAB ORDER. Using the tab key to get from one item/field in d7 to the next will not get you where you expect to be 9/10 times. I definitely need to spend some time fixing that - it's just tedious work and I'm usually too excited and rushed to get a new feature or whatever released that I forget the little details.

It sounds like you're bothered that you can't use their pirated software.

Nor am I. I'm just saying the only way it could have been "less useful" after they took out the pirated software was if that software was being used at all.

Absolutely I have used the pirated apps on the program in the past. Just as many thousands and thousands of people downloaded free music on napster before they realized how illegal it really was.

I don't use those applications any more, particularly because after studying to be a software developer I have a new understanding of certain things. Just because a good, product or service seems intangible doesn't mean that by getting it for free you aren't stealing.

Many years ago I had the attitude that it wasn't like I went into a store and took a real physical product. I now have much different views, for more reasons then just the college software development education anyways.

But still, the "stripped" version of hirens does contain useful tools. It's just not an end all be all tool. I haven't found one yet.

I like pie, actually. Its my favourite.

And my favourite pies are banana caramel cream, and pecan. Equal love, but preference depending on what mood I am in.

:P

Man, years ago I worked at ralphs(grocery store). The bakery had a clearance rack for "almost expired" food, and then I would get a discount. I used to buy a pecan pie almost every day, eat half of it at lunch and then the rest when I got home..

During the holidays its hard to beat a nice glass of eggnog and a pecan pie.

I've used hirens for a long time, and it's become slightly less useful after they removed all the programs that shouldn't have been on there.

I've never tried D7, although I might. Seems like a pretty solid application.

Seems they are meant for different things, and while Hirens is useful (even after it stipped out all the pirated apps) it doesn't have everything...

there is a version that adds those back in (called restored edition; humor in that?)

anyways if I did more sidework to make it worth purchasing d7, I would, I am lucky to get 1-2 sidejobs a month but I have played with the trial version and it is a great program and definitely see its uses, much better than any other toolkit I have used

I can settle this once and for all. Go to:

and look at the review at the bottom of the page. On December 15, 2012, Jesus said, "Great product but just for an experts."

Now who is going to argue with God?

I would like to get D7 some day but the $$ have kept me away though I am sure it is worth it. Wife had a stroke and losing the house are bigger issues now.

hiren's + ubcd + gegeek toolkit all done

hiren's for offline as well online repairs as its hbcd menu has good toolset
ubcd for low level tools for diag, repairs, and other things it also has partedmagic
and gegeek's toolkit is the best one has every tool you will ever need

While Hiren's is very versatile with it's expansive toolset out of the box, d7 saves technicians time. There are days when losing a few minutes isn't a big deal, but when things are really cranking, that time is invaluable. d7 automates and reduces the need for user input for some of the more time consuming tasks, aka running multiple virus scans using different engines. The reporting features are really coming along quite nicely, and while the cost may put you off, you will more than make that up in the time you save on the most common services you perform (For myself, those are Disinfections and Tuneups). d7 was one of my first purchases, and I have yet to regret that decision.

You can also add custom tools to many of the tabs in d7, including (shh!....) Hirens Boot Menu. Just food for thought.

i use win 7PE with D7. I brought d7 in dec and it has saved me so much time and money well worth every penny. I feel no program is a complete solution. but d7 is the closest. There are different tools for different things.
