Hiren's vs D7?

Which one do you prefer and why? I've been using Hiren's as my "catch all" solution for about 6 months now and I rarely find something that it can't do. I've been looking to give D7 a shot, what does it offer that I wouldnt get out of free programs like UBCD, Trinity, and Hiren's?

What?!

I'm failing to see the comparison - apples and oranges my friend...

Two very different tools for very different usage scenarios.. One being (primarily) for online work (d7) and the other being entirely for offline work (hirens.) Why not use them together like most everyone else? (edit: I mean, at least those who use shady toolsets like hirens!) Personally, my own toolbag consists of both d7 and a WinPE based boot disk solution.

Penicillin vs. Imodium
Both have their uses to make one feel better but come at things from entirely differently ways.

*Astonished*
I'm a relative newcomer to the game and I know not to ask that:rolleyes:

Sorry but there really is no comparison

I've used hirens for a long time, and it's become slightly less useful after they removed all the programs that shouldn't have been on there.

I've never tried D7, although I might. Seems like a pretty solid application.

Seems they are meant for different things, and while Hirens is useful (even after it stipped out all the pirated apps) it doesn't have everything...

It sounds like you're bothered that you can't use their pirated software.
Read his post again.
I wouldn't say he seems bothered by it.

/No, not being a jackhole.
//I actually thought the same thing you did.

While this thread seems to be going off track, I will say this..... As an old timer in the computer business, D7 is absolutely the best money that I have ever spent in the business hands down. It is legitimate and well maintained software that sould be priced a lot higher than Nick has it priced. You put D7 and Fabs4 together and you have a good foundation for your business.

PS. I am not associated with either of these businesses, just a user of their products.

We use them together quite a bit. The Malware Scan section in d7's Offline Operations section is really handy to use from Hiren's. Lets us very quickly analyze the Run key, out of place files, services, Hosts file, BHOs and search scopes, other boot/shell hooks, etc. Many times when a PC will not boot to Windows due to an infection, this process has us booting in a matter of a very few minutes.

I like pie, actually. Its my favourite.

And my favourite pies are banana caramel cream, and pecan. Equal love, but preference depending on what mood I am in.

:P

I believe that on close scrutiny (and I may be wrong here), there is a discrepancy concerning the number of characters and, indeed, the type of characters used in the two names.

My one criticism of J7 (that's it, isn't it ?) is the total absence of dodgy software.

Try as I might, I cannot find any exotic imagery, and I've spent several hours looking.
This is a serious flaw in the design.

Also, I miss my Babylon and conduit toolbars, and despite many feverish, sweaty, occasionally damp, requests for a pron download facility, none is forthcoming.

And does he take any notice ?

Well, actually yes he does, but not in language suitable for daytime television. Some of the things Mick suggests I do with myself are physically impossible.

I know, I've tried.

Actually I succeeded on one of those requests, but the barely disguised incredulous hilarity on the face of the A&E (ER) nurse is not one I wish to repeat.
It does mean I need a new set of cutlery, a rolling pin and a discrete replacement for next doors cat.

Actually, I think the cats flea collar is still stuck somewhere. I'll keep you updated and let you know if it passes.

Regards

I'm suddenly lost.........

D7 - For the Technicians, made by a technician, used by technicians, endorsed by technicians

Hirens - Never used it. Once I found out about it's illegal software included. Never bothered. Also no need as UBCD & UBCD4WIN work good enough for me.
Even now YUMI is good enough to use on newer OS's

Regards,

Hirens hands down. There is no comparison.

I have a few little 4 gig USB drives I made with Xboot with Hiren's, Activeboot, Kaspersky and ophcrack. I also have a mobile toolkit menu set up on it for when I can boot into the OS. With this drive and a Windows disc there is no software problem that can't be fixed. At least none I have found.
