Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia

Christians get the 666 as the mark of the beast from Rev 13:18.

"Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666."

I am wondering how this is a business or legal issue.

The book of revelations was written and rewritten, especially when Constantine the Emperor decided to make Christianity state religion.
By the way, Constantine himself didn't give a damn about any religion. He was atheist. For him was a political move to get the masses on his side, as Christianity at the time was formed of many sects, not united and not organized.
The origin of the 666 is open to speculation just because the Bible in it's actual form was written after the Christians stopped being thrown to the lions in the old Colosseum.
Argue all you want, but the Bible is what it is, a good guide to moral values. But if you try to find historical truths in it, you got a bit of a challenge in your hands.

This topic under Business and legal issues? Just sayin'...

Why would you post this in the Business section??? :rolleyes:

Because it is a business issue. Many customers don't like bills ending with 6.66, or will not call you if your phone number has too many 6's in it. I was pretty much asking if anyone has any experience with clients who have the phobia of the number, but instead we went another way (still interesting though) and started discussing about the phobia itself.

Interesting....
maybe software companies should write something like:
CUSTOMERS_TABLE.LOCATE ('CUSTOMER_NAME', INVOICE_TABLE.CUSTOMER_NAME.VALUE, []);
IF ((CUSTOMERS_TABLE.RELIGION.VALUE = 'CHRISTIAN') AND (INVOICE_TOTAL.DECIMAL_VALUE = 66)) THEN
BEGIN
LINE_ITEMS_TABLE.FIRST;
LINE_ITEMS_TABLE.EDIT;
LINE_ITEMS_TABLEUNIT_PRICE.VALUE = LINE_ITEMS_TABLEUNIT_PRICE.VALUE + 0.01;
LINE_ITEMS_TABLE.POST;
END;
Ha ha.... charge them more for the luxury :D they'll never know :rolleyes:

I'm a Christian, but I'm not into the whole 666 hype. That stuff is reserved for what I think is called "Conservative Christians" or something along those lines. But yeah, that's kind of a good idea, but I would go the other way and charge a penny less instead, and not exclude other people ;)

But then again, like you said. They'll never know.

Imagine you buy a brand new computer.
The total price is something like 776.66.
You make nothing of it, because you are not in the "hype"
One day after the warranty expires, the mobo fries.
What would you make of it then?

Even if the price was £666 and it was sold to me on Friday the 13th and it mysteriously blew up after I said the Lord's Prayer backwards I wouldn't think much of it!

These people are mostly brained washed by movies and media. It is not really the Bible that they are worried about or follow. If it was so, they would follow some very basic laws like eating pork. Everyone knows that Jews and Muslims do not eat pork. If you ask these same people "Christians" not to eat pork, they would look at you like you are crazy. Funny thing is, it is strictly prohibited to eat pork in the Old Testament. You are not even suppose to touch it let alone eat it. But if you ask them, they don't even know it is there... :rolleyes: but they can point out the 666 to you...

To me, god is an IMAGINARY FRIEND created by adults from need of protection after loosing their "always protected" status when children become adults,
and the need to explain things in nature which they did not understand

Koo7 can I use this quote, I love it!

A year ago. Customer: "I got your number from a friend of mine. I need some support for my church, but I don't like calling your number, too many 6's." (My number: 618.925.6671.) "Do you have a different number?"

Me: "Did your friend explain my rates and hours? $75 per hour. 8am to 6pm M-F."

Customer: "That seems awful high. We had a member that did it for us for $25. I don't think we can afford that. Do you have a discount for non-profits?"

Me: "I do have a discount for non-profit charity groups, but I don't include churches in that category. I guess we can't do business together, so there is no reason to give you my other number. I'm sure there is a high school or college student in your congregation that can help you."

(Wait there's more. I love mailing religious people, you get their true selves.)

Customer: "Our younger members have been dropping off, so we're a much smaller group now. We really need help. We can afford to pay you $40 per hour. Will that be ok?"

Me: "If you're willing to take a 40% pay cut in you're salary, then I'll do the work for $40 per hour. Remember, the laborer is worthy of his wage. I believe Paul said that. However, you'll still have to call my number. Just be glad the 6's aren't together."

Customer: "I see your point. Ok, we'll work on your terms."

It's amazing how the subject of money gets them off the nonsensical topics. I'm still doing work for that church.

be my guest.

I am delighted there are others out there who's logic works in similar ways.

Did you know that what you're doing is illegal? By U.S. law if you offer discounts for 501c3 organizations then you must offer the same discounts to all 501c3 regardless of race, color, religion, sex or national origin of the people who work within the organization or what the organization represents.

Allow me to paraphrase your sentence there as well..

Me: "I do have a discount for non-profit charity groups, but I am intolerant to religion, or I oppose your religious views so I discriminate against all churches, so by this, I guess we can't do business together. I also do not see it fit for me to give you my other phone number based on this.

I know I just may have sparked world war 3 just now, But I was busting inside to get this out. It's absolutely disgusting that you would exclude someone because of their beliefs.

In a free country, which this most definitely is not, as the owner of a private business, you can exclude anyone for whatever reason you like. Hopefully we might someday regain the freedoms we've lost when enough people tire of living in a cage.

So, let's just say you were suffering from a heart attack by chance, and there is only 1 hospital (privately owned) in the vicinity and they denied you medical care because say they just don't like you. How would you feel about this? That's just poisonous thinking pure and simple.

I'm not saying I'm perfect, but I most certainly will never exclude someone out of anything just because they are not the same color as me, or they don't pray to the same god that I do, or they're not the same sex as I am, or same sexuality as I am. You're idea of freedom is not freedom, but freedom of exclusion.

It's not a perfect world and never will be. The alternative to freedom is tyrannical dictatorship. I'd rather be left to die than take away someone's freedom to conduct his business as he will. Furthermore, who would you rather have your life depend on: someone who chose to have you as a patient, or someone forced to accept you at gunpoint?

Then by all means, turn me in. If you want to paraphrase me, then do so; don't put your words in my mouth. I don't exclude anyone based on their beliefs. I don't care if they worship a purple hippo that lives on the dark side of the moon. The reason I don't discount churches is so one doesn't think I'm showing favoritism to the other. The reason I do discount certain charities is because I believe in and support their causes. I don't have a lot to donate, so a discount is my way of giving. I give to the church I belong to, and, when they need it, I donate my services to them. I believe in the old saying that I reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. I also will discount whoever I so choose. I will not give my personal number to someone just because of their paranoia or superstitions.

Next time you want to assume something about me, or replace my words with your own, then I suggest you think before opening your mouth and providing us all with a glorious example of your overwhelming ignorance.

Someone forced to accept me at gunpoint. At least I have a chance to live, at least I don't have to know "I can't go there because they don't like me because of my skin". It's not a perfect world, but we could at least try our best.

Forgive me for the assumption, truly I am sorry. I simple misunderstood and over-reacted. My bad, on my part. I assumed that you meant you exclude churches because of the fact that they're religious organizations. I apologize for offending you and I really hope that you can forgive me for the insult. I made my assumption off of a lack of information and I was wrong for that.

Thank you for manning up. Apology accepted; incident forgotten. I didn't think there were any more people out there capable of humility and owning up. Thanks for the reminder that there are still a few of you left in society.
