Help !!

Ahh Client workstations are setup manually...using the SBS IP first..and the routers IP second.

So that should work.
You could adjust the login script to net use * /del /y and have them reboot twice..and then edit out that line so the normal mapping occurs again.

Doesn't explain why he isn't seeing the server by name.

If you wish to skip the script stuff....you can go to each worktation...open my computer, on each mapped drive that has some red X through it..right click, disconnect.

NOTE THE LOCATION THEY MAP TO BEFORE DOING THIS

Now reboot them. Assuming there is a log in script or GPO controlling client mappings, they should remap the drives upon logon.

there are no red x's-- shares are set-- at least I can access files in them, so they have to be right?

Only problem is Quickbooks won't open. It just spins and spins and it is getting its DB from the server, I guess.

I checked processes and there is a QBDBMgrN.exe -- so the server should be good to go, right?

I tried to copy the QB DB from the server so i could open it from the client's computer and it says 'can't read the source file or disk'

Client computers can access all files from shares. QB is my only problem.

Update

Okay-- so i got Quickbooks to work again-- on one of the client's computers but not both. All I did was use the restore option and it popped right up (lol)

So I tried to do that from the second computer but it's like the necessary files are hidden. i am assuming this is permissions related, but i didn't touch the permissions settings and this was working fine before.

The computer that it works on is the OWNER of the folder, and the other client is a contributor-- if that even matters.

Online.....catching up on thread.
If you want me to remote in...see what it looks like shoot me a PM. I'm online for a while now. Sorry got held up at prior client w/meeting with the boss and new financial people there...sorta a quick company change thing going on that has to happen urgently.

One quick way to test permissions.....that workstations can read/write to the share, from the workstation...create a new notepad text file on the share...name it and save it. If you can create a text file like "test.txt"...you're all set.

Yes that's the database manager service.

I don't know if it is permissions or not--

The share is not visible from the client's computer.

I would love for you to remote in. They close at noon cst so it would have to be in morning. If not, could we do it Mon?

I know it is something that is so stupid and simple i hate to waste your time.

I can't see the qb share from that computer. She is the receptionist, so she probably has limited access... but I know it worked before I worked my magic lol.

I understand about getting tied up. I appreciate you getting back to me...for a minute i thought you guys were like **** this idiot :)

Its a little bit of a drive so I need about an hours heads up to get over there. if your meeting will last all morning, we should try Monday. If your meeting will be quick, i can run over there first thing tomorrow and wait for you. Whatever you think is best.

I truly appreciate your help.

any additional suggestions for resources to read on basic server installation and management are also much appreciated

@StoneCat-- I didn't make it over that way today. Can we try again Monday? I will go there in the AM and wait for you to post.

Thanks again.

Ok-- I am here. Error I am getting is that quickbooks can not connect to database server. Using intuit's file -fixing tool.

When trying to run tool, I am unable to find the share that holds the QB company file.
