I have a dell XPS M1730 17 inch laptop with 2 hard drives in a raid 0 setup
When I try to boot into Vista I get blue screen, it flashes them goes away before message can be read.
I removed drives and connected with usb adapter one drive is detected but cannot be read

I tried Parted magic but could not see drives
I was thinking since there mirrored I would be able to read them, whats the easiest way to extract data
It is raid 0
I think it is a intel matrix raid controller I tried CTRL + I to enter the INTEL RAID thing, but nothing happened

I used a different HD and installed Windows it runs perfectly it’s just the HD Raid corruption issue

These people don’t have much money so data recovery lab is not an option

Have you tried to disable automatic reboot on bsod so you can see the error message? That way you can troubleshoot the error.

I just want to try and get data from drives
I fired up R studio but it wont initialise when drive is connected

I think these raid setups cause more trouble than its worth in my experience

Are they mirrored or is it raid 0?

If its raid 0 and the drives are healthy, then fixing the bsod is going to be the easiest way to get the data........

have not used either one but, a quick search came up with

1 data recovery service (critical)

2 a program, GetdataBack

3 a external dual drive with raid capable, 0&1

hope this helps

I think its Raid 0 as I just connected the sata 0 and it boots to bsod
When I connect the other drive only, nothing happens
That what I was thinking the easiest way would be as you say to fix the bsod
Which is not going to be easy as it won’t boot from install DVD, or Dart.

I have done work for this family before and to say they are cheap is an understatement they demand to know cost before I start I quoted low
not fully understanding what I was getting into so I won’t be spending a lot of time on this

I cringe every time I see one of these multimedia laptops or media center PC's come in with RAID 0. I can't believe any manufacturer could possibly think that this was a good idea, and I just don't understand it. Sure, you might get a mild speed increase; but you also double the risk of data loss and potentially significantly increase the recovery costs. Two crappy consumer grade drives (ie Seagate!) in a RAID 0 config, is a ticking bomb.

STOP!!! Please give me a call, 866-750-3169, before you try anything further.

Luke

Luke helped me out with this exact scenario some time back. I would make the call.

I connected both drives via USB to my laptop and fired up R-Studio
and it found both drives all I had to do was copy off all files I needed.
I thought I would give it one more try and it worked

I will definitely be charging a lot more than quoted

Thanks for the offer Luke I totally agree with you RAID 0 is crazy plus drives where mounted back to back touching 2 hot things together
increases heat

Assuming that you are recovering from sector-by-sector clones, you are doing great.
