If you dont work on laptops then you are going to have to spend alot of time learning. This isnt anywhere as easy as a desktop so I dont recommend opening it up unless you have all the right tools and the tear down info for the model.

BTW- its always helpful to post the make, model, etc when asking for help so we can take a look at the machine and see if we have had similiar problems, know its history, etc...

Ya I know and I am in the learning curve with laptops always passed on the hardware problems but they s just to many to ignore them now.
The model is emachine e520. I don't know the history it was sent to me?via another customer. when I turn it on nothing appears on screen just blank but it is lighting up the screen? With no post I am thinking either power supply or mother board would you agree?

Or CPU, or graphics controller, or grounding issue, or power/voltage issue....

Patience and Google will help with the learning curve :) Good luck, we've all been there.....

First step I would take is to remove the battery and see if it will post with just the power cord connected (and vice versa). Next, I would remove the hard drive. After that I'd focus on the memory, followed by the optical drive. These are all easy to do and, in my experience, the most probable reasons a system will not post.

Were you given any other information concerning the system? For instance, when was the last time it was turned on? Was it dropped? Did anything spill on it? Was the system in use when it stopped working? Was it running slow? Was it giving any error messages or blue screens?

Additonally, try doing a search for any known power issues on that particular model. See if there are any known issues posted on the manufacturer website.

Thanks guys
Alan sorry I should have said I did try with and without battery removed hard drive, ram, wireless card (read on a forum didnt think it would help but you never know lol). After a bit more searching it appears to be a common problem with the acer (although i've never seen it before) the replies im reading all point to the mother board. I went to acers site and tried the power reset nothing happened they.

Ya the video from podnutz show how to take them apart I managed that lol
And the web site with the book looks good but might not but the solution I need for this job?. Anybody know where i can get a motherboard for an acer emachine e520 model no kaweo ?
