HDMI to displayport not working

Hi, I have a client who has some brand new Dell desktops with Win7 and built-in Intel HD graphics.

The computers have VGA & HDMI out.

They got themselves some new HP monitors that are displayport only. They purchased some HDMI to displayport adapters that do not work. The computer simply doesn't detect the monitors.

We've tried all the usual basics; rebooting several times, updating the Intel drivers, messing around within the Intel control panel, etc. and nothing works.

They have also plugged the monitors into several other computers & a laptop and same thing.

I'm wondering if the displayport to HDMI adapter just doesn't work.

Any other ideas before we buy them some graphics cards with DisplayPort out?

Thank you

I don't think the passive converters work in that direction...taking an HDMI signal and scaling it to a DisplayPort input.

You need an active converter that stores EDID info. This protocol allows the display to tell the source what it needs to be happy.

That's what I was afraid of...can anyone else offer any assurance of this?

Otherwise, looks like graphics cards for the comps....

I can confirm this, I have had this issue before, and you would need active adapters for it to be able to convert the signal.
