Hard drives prices to rise due to flooding in Taiwan

With the floods in Taiwan the factories that make hard drives and parts for hard drives have shut down there is now a shortage of parts and hard drives are expected to go up in price soon better start stocking up while you can.

Thanks for the tip, I need to stock up on a couple of 500gbs for a system I am building with RAID mirroring.

I've noticed things seem to be going up in general, especially Windows 7.

I've already started seeing it here. $39 500GB are now $49.

My wholesaler sent this out, saying that Seagate has 6 meters of water in their factory in Thailand and expect it to take 9 months to get back to their normal supply...same with WD.

So what your saying is that I should buy as many hard drives now and when the prices shoot up sell them on eBay

No seriously I'm going to actually do that since best buy here hasn't gone up yet and theirs a Fry's down the street from my house.

It's still a good way to make money

The old Japanese RAM shortage is how Thor Shrock built up his initial capital.

Seagate and Western Digital happen to be the biggest market players.

Storage review called around and they reckon it looks like supply will get restored for summer 2012. So that'll probably be 1st September .
