Aloha. I have an iMac that needs a new drive. I know about Other World Computing as a possible source, but was wondering if there are other sources to find drives for Macs.

Mahalo,

Can you not simply use a SSD as normal?
Use a standard ssd. Depending on the year you may have to use software to control the fan speed for the HD fan

OK, let me clarify. I replaced the SSD in a MacBook Pro a couple of months ago, and it was an NVMe drive. From what I could tell (and I could easily be wrong). the "notch" (cutout) where the drive plugs into the slot looked like it was in a different location that what I could see when looking at other NVMe drives on Amazon or New Egg. And none of them specified that it would fit a MacBook Pro. I was afraid of ordering something that would not fit from those sites, so I went with OWC just to be sure. So, in this case, are there other suppliers for an NVMe drive that will fit / work in a MacBook Pro?

Mahalo,

Harry Z

They sell adapters for them to fit in a Mac so you don’t have to buy from owc anymore.

If you look up the serial number it'll tell you the specs. Is this the same iMac you mentioned in another post? If so it's almost guaranteed to be a standard SATA interface.

Hi Mark. No, this thread is specifically for macs that have an NVMe drive (the other thread is SATA drives). I did not express myself well in my opening post.

No worries Harry. NVMe is not that common as far as OEM config. If it's not SATA, personally, I do use OWC as a source for drives. Microcenter has started carrying more models.
