What is the best way to swap a hard drive from one machine to another? I have two identical box's (different MOBO's -same CPU) both were running MS 2000, One box I formatted and installed Unbuntu, works fine. The 2nd machine overheated I think and blew the CPU and popped a couple of capacitors.
I took the HD out of that box and put it in the box I had previously installed Unbuntu on , now when I try and boot I get a BSOD saying "Inaccessible Boot Device" Is there an easy way to make it bootable as I need a lot of the programs and info off of it.
I dont have or cant find a MS 2000 disk, I can boot from UBD4Win and see the info on the HD. Don't know if I should slave it and try and copy everything, don't know if that will work for programs I no longer have disks for.
Just looking for a simple fix if anyone has one.

Thanks for reading and offering advice.

nonchalant,
I have not connected it as a slave yet, I did boot into UBD4Win and can see the data, folders, users, etc. I will try and connect as a slave this weekend to see what happens. I'm going to see if I can find a Win 2000 disk also. I have not worked on a lot of Win 2000 systems is there a way to do a repair install like in XP?

Ok,

I can slave the drive and browse everything on the drive. I found a Win2000 Cd and tried a repair install, didnt work. I'm assuming that since both motherboards are different manufacturers is the problem one is an Intel board and the bad one was Aopen I think, now I have to figure out what boot information I need to change I guess.

I dont know why the repair install didnt work?? Any ideas?
