Hi guys, I'm looking to my peers in an attempt to help some friends out please.

Basically they are playing 5 a side in aid of Cancer Research for 55 hours.

It all needs recording for the Guiness Book of records. The people who were going to do the video have let them down at the last minute.

Question time.

Can anyone recommend a simple way of recording this huge event. At the moment, they are thinking of using camcorders, with sd cards.

The whole event is 55 hrs long.... Guiness have said they will accept it on DVD's or windows media and that just a normal quality video will be enough.

Would a web cam, recording direct to a laptop (with external drive if needed) be enough to record all of this.

Roughly how much storage space would be required, be it on sd card, or hard drive.

Would there be a way to connect the camera to the laptop for continuous recording.

They are doing the attempt this Fri, so it doesnt leave much time to get things organised :(. I was only asked about this, earlier this morning.

This is a link to the story.

Thanks to anyone who can offer any advice. :)

Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask, and I will find out, and let you know :)

A laptop and webcam will work. The only thing is size of the video. Using my Media Center as a baseline, the typical Movie uses between 650MB (DVD; no clue what I was doing when I was converting) to 8GB (Blue-ray; mastered the art and science). So choose a compression standard to save space. You might be able to accomplish the whole feat in about 20-30GB all the way up to a 1TB. At 1TB for 55 hours, the quality will be so in depth that you could see the wrinkle within the wrinkle of the guys face.

You are doing nothing more than putting up a single security camera, attached to a laptop, with an external HDD.

Be redundant.
Whatever method you chose, have a second option going at the same time, or just duplicate the same method.
Would be a real bummer to be 50 hours into it and something fail.
