Hello

I currently have an Acer all in one z5700 currently on my desk. I has being in another local firm who is saying they have replaced the motherboard 3 times. client got fed up as they has it 4 weeks and failed to fix it. So now i have it and its driving me mad.

I did have a look at all the old BSOD that had happened and their was one for last year pointing to Igdkmd64.sys

I have installed the correct graphics driver the newest a four older ones.

Tried to reinstall windows this failed (re-imaged it with image I made) as it could not install an Intel HD graphics driver.

Ran SFC

I'm starting to think it's maybe another faulty main board they installed.

I have attached two pictures of what is displayed on the screen.

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Paul

Confused here. How are you doing installs and stuff if all you get are those graphics at the top ?

Are those images only showing blank screens with the top part bad or should there be more data displayed on the screens ?

Does this unit have a video out port and can you try viewing that on another screen ?

Just want to be sure you are not just chasing a bad LCD issue.

I know its a all in one, but could you not try a external monitor?.

This would bypass the vid signal, and maybe point towards the board, or screen itself rather than drivers?

@NYJimbo. If I boot into safe mode and use a 'Standard VGA Driver' it works, but if you try and install the correct driver I set the above displayed.

@Cadishead will try tomorrow since there is only a HDMI output I will see what happens.

@angry_geek will check tomorrow.

Paul, in that case, forget the ext, I mentioned in my first post, it cant be the screen causing the fault as it works in safe mode.

I would completely remove any and all graphics drivers, irrespective of what they are or where they are from, and install them again. Failing that, follow Lorings advice.

Be sure any remnants of driver are indeed gone.

Does Windows install a 'generic' driver every time you try to uninstall the video driver and restart? Or does it attempt to?

afaik yes it does. Else how else would you be able to use windows to get in, and reload the drivers?

I mean this:

You un-install chip/driver via devmgmt. You check and clear any remnants. You restart.

As soon as you boot into Windows, do you see bubble that pops up on the bottom right, with Windows telling you it has detected new hardware and it's installing a driver?
And then you are informed that the driver has installed an the device is ready to use.

Is that happening at all?

@Romaniac yeah, i uninstall the correct driver in safe mode boot into normal mode and it works fine with the generic driver

@angry_geek voltage tests all came back fine.

After a lot of checking i'm starting to think it maybe a faulty board.

I did a memory check just in case. was clean.

If Win. is installing the generic driver, and you are trying to install Intel driver on top, that's what may be causing issues.

I would uninstall, and try booting back to safe mode, and installing the drivers there.

I know it sounds crazy, but that's what I had to do with Vista and nVidia drivers for my GTX 560Ti. And it worked. If I tried to install on top of 'standard/generic', nVidia would not complete the install.

You can try disabling Windows fro automatically installing a driver, but if it's Vista, it will most likely do it, still.
