Got a 860W PSU and 510W UPS...is that OK?

If I exceed the 510W rating of my UPS, will it still work but give me less battery run-time? I mainly got it for the power conditioning and surge protection and to shutdown the computer right away if the power goes out. But what happens if I game and use over 510W?

No one can answer that without knowing the actual watts being used.

In a non SLI/Crossfire configuration it is very unlikely to use 510watts in a modern system. In a SLI/Crossfire configuration depending on the video cards its possible to exceed the 510watts with some video cards 2x, specially doing something like furmark. If its 3x or 4x sli don't even try it.

Edit: Oh I misread your question, someone correct me if im wrong here but to some extent I believe it can handle a little more watts but if its enough the ups will instantly shut off. I am just basing that on previous experience from the 90's with cheap ups backups I haven't actually tried it recently.

I've got a high-end rig with i7-4770K OC'd, Dual 970s, 32GB RAM.

Either way, if I were to exceed 510 watts and go to 860 watts or 700 watts (something higher than 510), is that OK?

Otherwise I am looking at having to return the CyberPower 510W UPS I got and will have to get the 900W model that is 2x the price ($205).

I'm pretty certain that wouldnt be ok (700+ watts) and with a cyberpower ups won't it do that long annoying beep every single time you exceed the wattage of 510?

2x970 if its the only device plugged into the ups i think it would be fine....whats the watt usage for 2x970 in a system like...475watts under load. You don't have much room to grow if you stick to that ups though.

Something that nice should have a bit more headroom in the power supply (AX860i or AX1200i) and I'd go with a 900 watt UPS. Will what you have work? It's hard to say. But I wouldn't personally want to use that setup like that.
