When I search for "laptop screen repair"

My company is the first to pop up in the google "3 pack" maps results.

when I search for "laptop screen repair near me" my company doesnt show up in the "3 pack" maps results.

Why would this be?

Of note I dont have any laptop screen repair info on my website.

Hmmm....

"laptop screen repair" puts me at the top of the three here.

"laptop screen repair near me" puts me second behind some national remote services company ad. (search for "near me" and get someone in New York???)

No one can explain Google's search algorithms.....

google is now location based mostly and if your site isn't totally mobile friendly it gets demoted. Do the same search a mile away, you'll get different results. Also its all about popularity, if your not everywhere on the net, google thinks your not important. if your not searching from incognito mode your results will be tilted in your favor.

Agreed, but not sure of your point. It's exactly what I want. I don't need to top the search results in Chicago or Minneapolis. When I VPN out of Hong Kong or India and do the search I have to add the name of any of the 3 towns in my area to the search. Results are then about the same.

if your talking the top 3 in maps results, you have to be physically near your location, you can test it better with chrome's developer tools, and under sensors put in a location coordinate you want to search from.

It has to be how close you are to the location when it comes to map packs. Basically Google looks for the closest and most relevant business near you when you choose the words "near me".
