I have a Gateway NV59C Laptop on my bench that has me stumped. Customer brought it in last week for a screen replacement. It work for 1 day, and now it does not even post. No Gateway logo, no BIOS screen, nothing.

I have tried with an external monitor, same results. Intel processor, and video. Hard drive has been checked with no errors. Swapped RAM, reseated Ram and HDD, same results. No peripherals are plugged in.

Any ideas? I am completely stumped.

Thanks in advance!

What if anything happens when you try to power up ? Did you try that little BIOS flush routine ? When you replaced the LCD did you have to go inside the chassis or just inside the LCD assembly ?

Why was the screen replaced? Sometimes a bad crack means a bad fall or being stepped on. This can lead to other problems after the LCD repair.

When I turn the power on, the power light comes on, but the HDD light does not. Nor does the wifi light. The dvd drive will spin for a few seconds, but the HDD does not.

I did not go into the chassis for the screen replacement. Just the bezel.

Customer did not state how it was broken, just that it was.

I tried the battery out / unplugged and hold the power button trick to no avail. Is that what you meant by bios flush?

Not suee if you did this but REMOVE the HD and DVD and see if it will boot.

Does the battery hold a charge ? If so try to boot on just battery and then on just AC.

Also pull the ram from both slots, replace one known good stick in either slot. Try to boot, if nothing put that same stick in the OTHER slot and try to boot.

Its possible the processor is bad but that is very rare. I have a NV52 sitting here with the same issue and I'm calling it a bad mobo after all of my testing. Ripped it all the way down and swapped the CPU. Still dead.

If you went into the chassis I would say that might have upset something but since you only went into the bezel the only possible thing I can think of its some kind of lid switch. I dont think you would be shorting anything in the LCD since it didnt die on reassembly.

Without knowing what caused the crack or how long its been dead I can't think of anything else at this point. We do get a lot of machines that come in after a drop or being dormant for a while. Many times if I am going to replace the LCD I see if I can get external video. If I can I will try to excercise the machine for a while to see if everything else is ok. I dont think this would have helped you because the customer had it for a full day so it most likely would have passed basic testing.

I would not rule out they killed it, could have been an overheat. Who knows.

NV52 are horrible laptops. If you replaced the screen and you get nothing the inverter or backlight might be bad as well. Or a better answer is the screen broke from some horrible accident that also damaged the rest of the computer. I would take it apart and see if theres anything inside it like rust or spilled beer maybe?
