Gated communities - access for service & advertising?

I've worked in a few gated communities as an employee of the community, so I had an employee ID. I never knew how none employees gained access to do service calls within. Does anyone know how this usually works? The one place I worked was about 30 sq miles with lots of houses so I can't see having to call in every technician that comes to the house - or is that how it is done?

When it comes to using the post office and their "every door" flyer promotion, does anyone know if gated communities have their own special postal code, like the last 4 digits of a zip code? Does anyone know how to target these communities for the postal flyer post card mailing program (whatever it is called).?

I do work in gated communities and typically the owner calls down to the front gate to notify them that we will be coming. Once there they give us a visitor pass or whatever and we go to where we need to go.

As far as address/zip code as far as I know they do not get a special code and that is because it would be too difficult to handle that setup. Where I live we have no HOA...But, have lived places that did and if they wanted they could vote and make it a gated community and have guards etc..Well the postal people are not going to give them a special code just because...

So if you were to buy a list in x zip code it would include those residences.

Having spent several days in huge HUGE high end gated community in Boyton Beach FL over the past week 'n change....our host (mother in law) just called to the guard down at the gate we used....my name, our black Mustang convertible, and that was it.

A lot of gate communities will have a their own 4 digit zip extension. Just not their own zip code. And there is a reason they are gated. To keep out the riff raff, including business owners like us. To be honest I dumped residential a long time ago. Too little money and too much hassle.

Lol. I used to service a huge gated community in the panhandle of FL. Huge. 18 hole golf course, its own big ass k-12 school, lots of stuff. One day we were waiting at the gate to get buzzed in and the delivery guy behind us shouts out "JUST TYPE IN 1234". And I say "What?" And he says "1234 is the code for delivery guys, works every time, so does 0000." So we tried it. It worked. Used it from then on.

Illusions of security and whatnot.

Like Mark said, the +4 is mail carrier specific. Chance are all in your targeted community have the same zip+4.

thanks for the replies. I was figuring that the 4 digit extension to the zip was probably how they may differentiate the community, I know some streets have their own.

A "legal" gate installer (one that is licensed and not just a general contractor who is messing in an area he has no business messing in) is also required to set a code for the local authorities (fire, police, etc) and notify them what it is. There are some "default" codes out there.....

WHOAH!!! NICE!! I live in Boynton Beach. I am assuming you either went East near the intercoastal or West around Lyons Road?? :D

Most of clients in the gated community will give me a code good for a week or two. They normally public codes for services and deliveries that is suppose to changed, but sometimes it take a long time.

I used to live in a gated community. We don't have a special zip+4 code.

Dang...I shoulda made a post I was going to be there...would have been cool to hook up for a brewski. Although I typically don't post on forums (or facebook) when I'm away on vacation much.

Anyways, we stopped at the mother in laws for a couple of nights....she lives in Indian Springs....a freaking huge golf resort gated place. She lived in Gate 3...which was off of WoolBright...and El Clair I think? Ainsely Ct was the final road I think. Nice setup there!

We went to the water reclaim nature park walks...took daughter through those walks and the nature center there.

Ate at Mama Mias...fancy little Italian restaurant.

Ahh yes! I know exactly where you are. Indian Springs is nice, sometimes I cut through there for short cuts since there isn't too much lights around there.

For the Water Reclaim Nature parks did you go more West of that? ARound Hagen Ranch and maybe Flavor Pict Rd? lol.

Mama Mias is nice, gooood food!! I am glad you liked it! Next time do let me know you are in town! I understand about the vacation thing too, I really don't like to post that stuff up either lol.

The first one she took us to, seemed very close to her home....was a smaller one, did not have the nature center building. I do remember it behind behind a water works building (the parking).

The second was was barely another block away...but much larger, and had the nature center. Saw some info board inside which was talking about the farmland it was build on, donated by some family with a last name starting with a "W". Willberg or something . Was some huge farm before it got donated and transformed into the water park.

I do recall seeing Flavor Pict road, and Jog road. Can't recall which was which.

Wow you were right down the road then from my parents house. Crazy how you are in CT and NY and then all of a sudden down in my neck of the woods lol.
