Gas prices are killing me.

So gas is getting crazy expensive yet again. From what I hear it's around $4.50 in some areas, that's just outrageous! By me it's still "only" $3.50 per gallon but I'm eating every single cent in costs since I don't charge to visit, pickup or dropoff at my clients homes.

On average I'm eating about 4 gallons a day, so I'm taking a $14 hit every single day on gas. It adds up quickly too- in 1 week i'll use about 16 gallons ($56! I do pickups 4 days per week) so in a month I'll probably use around 64 gallons ($224!!!)

At this rate it'd be cheaper for me to lease a new hybrid. Truth be told I can't afford the gas any longer, but at the same time I can't afford to start charging my clients for the visits since that's one of my biggest advertisements (FREE on-site service!)

Anyone else hurting by this? (Also, would our Euro friends be kind to this post. We know your gas is around the $10/gal. mark and we can only hope not to get that far)

Yes gas is crazy here also. Filled up the 4-runner tonight and it was about $75 or so...But, daily drive the Mustang and that has the 5.0 in it...lol

I typically don't even look at gas prices because I am not downsizing any vehicle so it really does not matter...whatever it is i'll end up paying.

It's over £6 a gallon here. I'm looking at changing my vehicle.

Oh God, I miss the days when filling up my 38 gallon TANK (no wonder they call it a tank) cost me only $75. I'm paying around $115 ~ $125 per fill-up.

They say the situation in Libya is to blame for the prices, but then we get maybe 1% of our oil from Libya? This is what we get for our foreign oil dependence. Somebody farts in the middle east and its an excuse to raise prices. Just like when the prices started plummeting a 1.5 -2years ago, these sheiks were falling out of their castles. What the middle east oil Cartel wants, they get. At the same time, Iraq is something like the second largest oil producer. We spent billions of dollars in that country and we aren't even going to attempt to collect back what we invested there in oil for our country? All we need to do is tap into our natural reserves and separate ourselves from OPEC and this in itself will bring the prices down to a much more reasonable level.

Just did the math. It's hit around $1.25/l here ($4.73/gal). My little Sidekick has a small tank and it usually lasts me a week. Even so, it's about $35 to tank up.

One more reason I'm pushing for more folks to come to me.

Right now we are paying $3.70/gal, and to fill up my explorer it's around $90. It last 2.5 days..... so I am looking at almost $200 a week in gas......

Here in Belgium we pay € 5.54 for every gallon of Diesel so that makes around 8 U.S. Dollar for every gallon.
But we have the luck we don't need to go that far by car. most clients are within 10km. But since we don't charge for pickup/delivery its also a pain in the but.

The average around here (SF Bay Area , CA) is about $4.05 - $4.25 (87 octane). I try to ride my motorcycle whenever I can. I get an average of over 50/MPGs.

Wow, 87 octane?
I think it is now about 20 years since in Europe and UK you could only get 95 Octane and up.
Now I understand why is cheaper over there.

Edit:
If they were to introduce lower Octane fuel over here, I would not put that in my tank.
What you save on fuel you pay on engine maintenance.

Regular = 95 octane
Premium = 98 octane
All led free

Essentially if your engine isn't knocking, higher octane fuel does nothing better for you. Most Standard American Vehicle Engines are built for 87 octane ratings.

I don't know about European cars but that might not be the case with yours.

But really the issue is we're using two separate methods of determining Octane ratings. AKI (US) and RON (Pretty much everyone else)

Here in Texas atleast...
87 AKI is ~ 91 RON Regular
89 AKI is ~ 93 RON Midgrade
91 AKI is ~ 95 RON Premium

The family mini-van & my Jaguar both have 25gal tanks.

I fill up every 2 weeks van gets a fill up every 10 days it seems.
we've been limiting our trips for a few years since it started hovering around $3

In a few years I can dump the van for a smaller vehicle when the oldest 2 are on their own.
Not sure I want to get rid of the Jag.

yep here in the UK its working out at around $9.50 a gallon. You people in the US are very lucky!

Holy crap.

I put in $15 at a time. My office is 1 mile from my house, so that can last me a week. I will be bike riding soon.

But when I do fill up the tank for trips to Minneapolis, it's $50+ to fill up.
