Gaming AIO.

A gaming AIO used to be an oxymoron but this one/AIO should game well (at a price). Still, where/who is the market? Gamers certainly don't buy AIOs.

Maybe they will now?
This looks pretty good.
Being an AIO should make it easier to carry around to friends houses when they have their little clans?

I can't imagine anyone buying this and intending to travel with it. Anyone willing to shell out that kind of money who was likely to travel would likely (IMO) just go with a laptop.

Gamers are a special breed - I've seen folks lug a full (large) tower system & monitor to gaming meets in specially-made padded cases... Talk about d*&k-measuring contests - I never saw anything like it before or since. Everyone needs a hobby, though. To each his own! :-)

Ever seen an iMac carrying case?

Yes, the original box. It has a handle even.

The above is meant to be serious. I haven't seen a case for an iMac. I thought once or twice about buying one for when I have to pick up and deliver them to client sites.

About the All in One gaming PC:

from the article..
It’s huge and bulky
Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?

Plus, so many limitations to an all in one design. I love all in ones, but not in this case. Serious gamers want 144Hz monitors too.

Maybe they will now?
I don't think so. The problem with AIO and other big-brand OEM computers is that the tech isn't quite the latest. This only has 7th-gen CPU, the 8th-gen is such a big improvement that anyone would be crazy getting the old tech.

Depends largely on price.
The little gaming community I support are all young/ish people with mediocre jobs that don't pay all that well, (think Mcdonalds, city council, etc) that are prepared to accept "last years tech" for a reasonable price.
Yeah, some are getting good incomes, but are also paying off cars, houses, paying rent, mobile phones etc - so not a lot to splash on the "cutting edge."

Yes good point.
There is a price at the bottom of your linked article of $3299 AUD which seems OK for the specs mentioned in the article. Funny thing is though, the Resistance web site (linked from the article) has a single AIO listed with completely different specs for $2999. This one has i7-8700 (better) but only GTX 1050 2GB graphics, which isn't very good for gaming with the 3440 x 1440 screen. So if it could be optioned with GTX 1070 as per the article, then it could be $400 more. Looks like it would cost more than a custom PC tower.

Agreed! And a custom tower would be a much better option IMO.
But some of these guys would jump at an AIO over a tower because of the portability (such as it is).

One of my "regulars" hosts LAN nights for about 5 friends in his parents garage.
Some of the gamers are girls and after showing them this article, they (the girls) both said they would like that better than their existing kit.
But then the discussion comes back to price...

And all in ones usually always have the heat problem. Putting a 1070 or 1080 in such a tight space is sure to generate TONS of heat. That and that core i7 CPU. I really wonder how well it performance thermally.

It's $3000 at least, and I'm sure if you drop it... you may as well just sell whatever is salvageable and buy another. That's one expensive very expensive mistake.

iBuyPower shows a Chimera laptop with a 1070GPU, and similar or better specs than the AIO "Beast" save the 34" of screen size. That's the one compromise. The laptop is $1850, but is a 17.3 inch screen at 1080P. If I were a "LAN" goer, it'd probably be the better option. Easier to transport, and it might be hard to have enough real estate to set up a 34" display unit in the area as the rest of the people at the LAN party.
