Hey all,

Looking at starting to accept credit cards both in store and on site. I'm able to find great resources for accepting on site (Square), but am having a hard time finding in store options.

Anyone have suggestions?

There are dozens of threads on this already..... but we used square in store as well (wifi) until we were running over $5K/month and are now switching to pin capable devices and full CC setups through First Data.

How do clients react to you using square in store? Do you still have a PoS system for cash and check?

I would talk to your bank, see what they offer, depending on how much you think you will use. I know my full time job, we pay 1.75%, no monthly fee, but we also do over 100k a month.

If you have an iPad Square Register has a fair amount of flexibility. Not as much as a full fledged POS system but if your needs are simple it would work. Personally, I would not spend the money on an iPad just for the POS though.

Just to clarify what markverhyden is talking about here...

Square's "Register" app is the same regardless of what device you use it on. There's only 1 Square app for accepting credit card payments. However, on the iPad, Square has additional features that enable you to connect a cash drawer, receipt printer, etc, to make it a full-on POS system.

This only apply to USA. I don't know the process for other country.

Square has a flat rate of 2.7 for cards that are swipe and 3+ for manual entry. This work for any credit and debit card.

With a traditional having a merchant ID, you pay interchange + rate + misc charge. To give you an example
a debit card would be around 1.5%
a credit card with no rewards would be around 1.5% to 2%
a credit card with reward or point would be around 2% to 4%
American express is about 3.5% and higher

Here's what I'm currently doing
First I ask if I can do debit.

For American Express, discovery and Business card I used Square.
For online I use Paypal.
Otherwise I use the traditional way. If you opt to have the traditional way, make sure you have the volume. If not start with Square.

Paypal has the same device as Square but rate is a bit higher 3.1%. I carry it as a backup but never used it yet.

So far no complaint from the user about square but I have read a lot of bad reviews for square. Been using it for over a year

I've heard that... I've heard that you pay a higher processing rate for business cards as well.

square

I use it in the store and closed my merchant account 11 months ago
I purchased a 7 inch galaxy tab for $100 and use it just this purposes. My clients love signing on the screen

So it works well on Galaxy tab? I have been google searching for days now trying to figure out which Android based tablet to buy for full square compatibility. I had an ASUS Nexus tab and it was not. Apparently it's headphone jack is not a dual mic jack so it does not have the ability to input data.
