For once and for all they aren't jiggabytes!

Easy for Franklin to say, he was a rich landowner with plenty of hired help to defend him. How does an everyday person ensure their safety within a libertarian society? Buy a gun? To be sure of safety in such a society you must shoot every threat dead, preferably preemptively. So the town gets together and hires a sherriff. But what of the one's who don't want a sherriff. Why should they benefit from the sherriff the rest hired? What do you do with the dissenters? Run them out of town? Suddenly you've got a statutory society again.

It's my experience that people quote Rand and Franklin and Mises et al without having really thought about what true libertarianism means. They see the big statements about small (or no) government, no compulsory taxes, absolute freedom and it sounds good. The reality would be very, very different and is probably only achievable when humans have evolved to the stage that greed and violence are extremely rare or entirely absent.

I am only saying that we need to stop giving up our liberties it is not gaining us anything. I think we need to reclaim some of these liberties we have lost and I think we need to restore the value of the US Constitution as our government treats it like a piece of toilet paper to wipe thier ass with. I don't see anything we have gained from the liberties we have forfieted in recent years. I am not one to stand fully on one side of a fence I know the flaws in most any stance though some flaws are based more on your precise morals and values while others are a bit more definate.

I think we need to end this here if we really want to continue it lets use some other place this topic has gone way off base.

I agree with you 100% Blues. Glad to see some common sense every now and then.

i think we should have a philosophy forum on technibble or maybe a political one

Abe

GO OBAMA GO!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, dead right Blues. Final say is that I actually agree with you. You at least seem to have thought about it and made a decision unlike the rest of the sheeple.

I don't know if this thread is still on topic, but a couple of my clients call the computer tower "the memory". They ask "should I bring the entire computer, with keyboard, mouse, cables, and monitor? or just the memory?"

Many people also call it "the CPU".

Oh, and do you guys bother correcting people when they say "please clean my computer because the memory is full of programs I don't need" or "I think it needs more memory because I got so many songs and videos stored". It's really an understandable mistake, so I don't bother explaining most of the time.

I explain memory etc this way.

Your hard drive is your filing cabinet. Your memory is the space on top of your desk.

That's a pretty good one. I've always used the library analogy:

"Your hard drive is the whole library. Your memory is the card catalog."

But I think yours is a bit more analogous. I may have to co-opt that puppy.

My father in law insists on calling his tower PC his "hard drive" and referring to his keyboard as the "computer". Of course his his nice new TFT monitor is the "computer TV". To his credit, he calls his mouse a mouse....

It's funny 'cause I read that (phoneticall) as:
"Brits still use esses when they should use zeds".

Don't you mean Brits still use esses when they should use zees?

I'm a Brit by the way & still use esses and get annoyed by the creeping Americanisation (or should that be Americanization?) of our language.

I must admit though I think old Noah Webster did get a few things right & most of the American spellings make much more sense.

is it trace rowt or trace root ?

a friend of mine studying applied computer science at the university with me, actually announced it as none other than TRACER TEA.

A nearby classmate cracked up laughing and said, "Wait till he tells you about NetState..."

and i totally lost it at that point... lol...

* dew knot re: lye own yore spell chequer two fined awl you're missed steaks.

~ in keeping with the correct political tone of this thread...

"ewe knead two awl weighs list sun two thee pee pull! they are crying out for leadership!" - president so&so.

i made the ultimate mistake of telling my grandfather to defrag his pc every now and then to speed up file transfer a little bit when the hard drive gets cluttered

now every time the moron calls me he said

my pc is running slow should i defrag
or i think i got a virus should i defrag

i ask how much memory they have
40gb or 1tb wtf how
oh if you look in my computer it says there see c: 120gb
why do they put the keyboard on a long enough cable to alow you to slap a customer with it

other small things piss me off too

1gb is not 1000mb its 1024 1000 if refereing to a pc would be a gigahertz
not a big problem for a gig but a terra thats 240 gbs you just lost
why the **** do you never ever try turning it off and ******* on again

dont ever ask me if a pc is powerfull enough to play solitare farmville or any other stupid game although something like wow or crysis maybe you can ask

dont watch over me when i work i dont mind if your curious about how i work but dont advise me how to do my job

i need to go have a rant an youtube i think ill post the link toorrow
