Some people may not be stupid and uninformed, they just sound that way. The following examples spoken from the mouths of customers rubs my fur the wrong way.

Gigabytes pronounced jiggabytes

Linksys pronouced linksystem

Installing software stated as 'Downloading' (when using disks)

Internet Explorer IS NOT Windows Explorer! @#%$#@%$#@

Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox and simply "Internet" are not your ISP

The monitor is not the "TV Part"

No I WILL NOT explain the difference between male and female connectors to you. Not now, not later, not ever. Ask your mother.

Your system's CMOS(Sea Moss) battery is not green plantlife that lives in the ocean.

The computer won't turn on... DOES NOT mean that the computer boots into windows and then hangs.

Your 'memory' is not your hard drive.

No your favorites list with 75 items in it all for quilting sites is not using up all of your hard drive space. Your porn that you absolutely deny ever having looked at probably is however.

Don't tell me 'We are good christians and would never look at such and such' if and when 5 minutes later I see saved searches for 'hot girl on girl action' in your teenage daughter's profile.

Yes just 'checking my email and gettin' on the end-turn-net' can get you a virus...

need i go on...

Heh... I'm sure that list is WAY longer! Remember, though, those customers put food on our tables so we have to tolerate a little of that with a friendly smile!

The monitor is not the "TV Part"

I remember back in the late 1990's people would often bring in their CRT monitors as their "computers" to be repaired. One guy lugged in a very heavy 19" CRT and plopped it down on the desk and said "It don't boot anymore". He had the machine for THREE YEARS and still thought the monitor was the computer.

I wonder what he thought the big box thing was that sat next to it did.

Windows XT
Windows Vita
Rams
CPU instead of computer tower

The list is endless. However everyone is uninformed about something. Still great fun to laugh and joke about in the end =)

Ohh don't forget UBS.

It used to be a regular occurrence for me to hear people call their entire computer "the modem".

had a guy in that asked some wierd questions i'll post the 2 I remember.

1. "how do get that little screen that comes on when you put in a memory key or cd"(autoplay) "once I close it it disapears and I have two take out the key and put it back in" (i don't think he knows what "my computer" is.

this is a classic a bit like the cd tray coffe cup holder
2. "i noticed when I get my computer out of hibernate the sound volume changes some times as low as 8%" so I said "well that's weird never heard of that" then he dropped a bombshell "what's the little wheel thingy on the front of the laptop is it there to calm my nerves" (he was talking about the volume wheel).

"Gigabytes pronounced jiggabytes" You can thank one of the greatest movies ever Back to the Future so Im kinda ok with that. I heard a terrible pronouciation of Linksys so aweful I can't remember it and had no idea what they were talking about. Then I love this one I have listed below.

Over the phone
Me: "Ok now unplug your ethernet cable"
User: "What?"
Me: "The network cable."
User: "I don't know which one that is."
Me(shaking my head as I say this): "The one that looks like a giant phone cord."
User: "Oh ok done."

Yeah I use the giant phone jack description to refer to the ethernet port. At least most people can figure it out at that point. I've heard people refer to their tower as simply the 'hard drive' on countless occasions.

How about the people who turn off their computer by holding in the power button on the front of their computer until it shuts off. Most of the DELL towers do this, hold it in for something like 10 seconds and it will shutdown.

I had a customer do this, I told him he has to do the Start->Shutdown->TurnOff Computer (or whatever) and he still does the power button.

My sister still shuts off her computer by flipping the switch on her power strip.

Gigabytes pronounced jiggabytes

Actually, that's technically the correct way. The 'wrong' way was what caught on, though, so now the ones who say jigga sound weird.

In English the initial g of giga is usually pronounced /g/ (with a hard g as in giggle) but is sometimes pronounced /dʒ/ (with a soft g as in giant).

This latter pronunciation was formalized within the United States in the 1960s and 1980s with the issue by the US National Bureau of Standards of pronunciation guides for the metric prefixes.[1] A prominent example is found in the pronunciation of gigawatts in the 1985 movie Back to the Future.

Anybody remember how many gigawatts Doc's Flux Capacitor put out? ;)

But then we'd spell jello with a g :) and gaaadget would become jaaadget

Technically his flux capacitor didn't put out any Jiggawatts. It did consume 1 POINT 21 JIGGAWATTS!!!!111!!! however.

i really just cant stand any form of incompitance at all but for me most things in teh IT world are a case of spending 30 minutes and a couple bux on a 6 pack of smirnoff to get it worked out and if i cant i ask the good people on technibble. i really dont have the patience for the non tech savy people who think computers are big and scary or myspace machines just one of the reasons im going threw a pack of PJ reds a day at the moment. :P if i have to use baby talk to explain a dead HDD one more time imma -trails off into a rant-

People thinking Windows is the whole computer when it is just the OS!

Gigabyte pronounced as gigawatt.

Router (Rooter) pronounced as Rowter!!
I never hear people saying which is the best Rowte to take. Its Router (Rooter) ffs.

Already been said but people double clicking everything. Even when you setup Windows for one click, they still double click!!

Thinking that the IE icon is the internet and thats who they pay, not their ISP! Although Microsoft would like to think that they own the internet.
There are other better browsers you can use, like Firefox!
