I would like to send out flyers to everyone in a specified city. For you guys that have done this already, do I just goto the local post office for a list of addresses and pay for bulk mailings, or is it easier to find a company that does this? If you do use a third party company which one I'm open for suggestions.

i just looked into this, just last week.

I didn't try going to the local post office for address or bulk mail for a few reasons. 1) i wanted the first last name or the resident to make the mailing more personallized and more like to be opened and read. 2) the bulk mailing postal mark if sometimes associated with junk mail.

I would suggest getting the zip codes for the city you want to mail. I have 3 zipcodes for the city i live in. After talking with several companies about filters, pricing and quantities, my list of names and address ranged from 5000 to 9000 for the same filters and areas. pricing is usually done by the 1000, with a minimum $. the third party company minimums i talked to were from $250 to $500. and they oftered printing and mailing services as well.

I didn't want the services from a few reasons. 1) they probable were going to use the bulk postage which i didn't want, explained above. 2) i didn't want a flod of client to call all in the same time frame, so i was going to send out 100 or so a week.

addresses

Check with the local chamber of commerce of your local tax office. I have contacted them before and they maintain a list and will print it out for you. You will have to do your own labels but it's one way to do it. Typically I pay $25 for the list of businesses.

Thanks for the advice, and yeah I only do this part time so I didn't want to send out 5000 flyers all at once and get more calls then I could handle. Looks like I goto the chamber of commerce and grab a list and then mail out a 100 or so a week and see what I get.

Typical enquiries from flyers is less than 2 per cent, so don't underestimate how many it will take to get sufficient response.

Well, I've only been doing this part time on the side so I only have a few billable hours a week I'm bringing in. Anything is better then what I'm running now. HEHE Figured I start with advertising I can target my surrounding cities with in hopes to get some local customers and then test with some other forms of advertising afterwards. Right now all I'm running with is word of mouth.
