Firefox's new update?

I've been playing with it. No real complaints so far, except the "new tab" page. I prefer it to just be Google's homepage, but haven't figured out how to accomplish that yet.

It does seem to be pretty fast.

I have been using it for a month while in beta. It seems to be faster to me. Also Google is now the default search engine as I guess the deal with yahoo is over.

On the New Tab page, at the top right corner is the settings gear icon. I disabled all the new "features" except for the search bar, so essentially it's now a Google Search page.

Thanks, I already saw that and did it, but I want the actual Google homepage. I regularly use the shortcuts and such that are on it.

Competition is good. I had to run Firefox on customer's machine yesterday. 10 year old Core2Duo, Win10-Home, and ONLY 2GB of RAM. Firefox was outstanding! Color me impressed. (However, I'm not switching my 6-core, 16GB RAM machine from Chrome... who cares if it creates a few more execution threads?)

I've updated to Firefox Quantum on my main computer. Saw no difference at all whatsoever. Maybe it'll be faster on those $300 Walmart specials, or a 10+ year old XP computer that's been upgraded to Windows 7, but on a modern computer there just isn't any difference. And the black tabs are UGLY. Took me a few minutes to figure out how to turn them white again so I can read them easily.

I'm checking it out also. Not much difference at all with my cpu/memory/disk usage compared to Chrome.
Something I did notice though is facebook was flying and smooth as ever compared to Chrome. Also a
little something that's been annoying me for awhile now, is whenever something tech related showed up
in my news feed as I was scrolling in facebook it would just disappear before I could click on it?

Poof, gone, right before my eyes. That didn't happen using Firefox, all the tech stuff was available.
Sort of weird don't you think?

Yeah I think they are navy blue or something but I hated it too. I changed it back to light so I can see better. The dark color was killing my eyes.

This alone makes me like Firefox more than I did before. I hated having Yahoo on everyone's computer that used Firefox.

This is the first thing I do when setting up Firefox for any client. Glad to know default search engine is Google.

I tried it out yesterday and I love it! Really liked the feature that when a tab crashes only that one goes down instead of the whole browser like it used to previously.

I don't use FFQ but have installed it several times already on client comps. Seems faster than the older versions on any comp.
Still not as fast as Opera though, IMO
Love the fact that they've caught up with Opera when it comes to locking down camera/microphone access.
Not quite as easy to disable as Opera (for end users) but definitely a step in the right direction!
I noticed a few other options that will help with security as well, still no way to turn off WebRTC, (without a deep dive into "about:config") but I guess if EU's install uBlock Origin it will help.

So far only one issue with it.
Cheap Acer laptop with 4GB Ram, Intel Dual-core, Win 7, but did have an SSD.
For some reason. CPU usage was near 100% from Firefox.
Re-install, reboot, etc. same thing.
Only on this machine.
Went back to latest long term release. Problem fixed.

I have a client that uses his ISP's web portal for email. Firefox now won't allow him to respond or type in HTML for his email. It's probably a setting in Firefox but I told him to use Thunderbird (Firefox's kissing email cousin). Their (CenturyTel) web portal is intolerably slow......

I've gone back to an earlier version because almost none of my add-ons worked with the new release. Things like Tab Mix Plus, Minimize to Tray, Close All Tabs, etc.

I thought it was just me till I read the previous few posts here.
Intel Celeron N3020 (yeah, I know!) 4 gb ram 100% processor usage with new FFQ?

That's interesting, I have a client in the same situation. Is the ISP using Zimbra for webmail?

Edit: Yes, CenturyTel uses Zimbra, according to Google. If I find a solution, I'll report back (my client is currently using Chromium for email access).
