The CCNA itself only scratches the surface as to what most devices are capable of. If you would look through some CCIE books, it would probably make more sense if it was in chinese. Its crazy how powerful some of them are.
I would focus on 26xx / 28xx series routers, you will encounter more of those than anything else on the market more than likely. As far as switches, 29xx / 37xx series switches seem to be plentiful as well.
